What Upgrades or Builds Have You Excited For Wave VII?

By Tsiegtiez, in X-Wing

There hasn't been a lot of news since the K-Wing and Punisher had those spoiler videos, but now that everyone has been digesting that information what fun builds, lists, and combos are you keen on? I'll start with a few things I'm looking forward to playing!

Kavil (24)

-Vet Instincts (1)

-Engine Upgrade (4)

-Autoblaster Turret (2)

-Bomb Loadout (0)

-Proton Bombs (5)

-Extra Munitions (2)

-"Genius" (0)

Move at PS9, drop a Proton Bomb in someone's face, and then Boost away, only to throw three Autoblaster dice at them! Twice! Kavil with ABT+EU+Unhinged is a popular way to kit him out, and with good reason, but I think the double Proton Bombs and versatility of Genius offset the loss of green from the dial!

Miranda Doni (29)

-Twin Laser Turret (6)

-Dash Render (2)

-Extra Munitions (2)

-Cluster Mines (4)

-Advanced Homing Missiles (3)

-Advanced SLAM (2)

Yes, that's a 49-point K-Wing. I think Miranda has some serious potential though! First, the Twin Laser Turret syncs beautifully with her pilot ability, especially with any low-AGI ships on the board; against a Decimator or Falcon, you've got a solid chance at still dealing two damage even if you use one of your attacks to recover a shield. Second, the Advanced SLAM is just begging for the Extra Munitions and Prox/Cluster Mine combo. To top it off, Advanced SLAM will help Miranda acquire Target Locks for a pair of missiles that can be Focused the following turn! With luck, the Advanced Homers will in fact fire out-of-arc, but even regular Homing Missiles will be worth the points when Miranda can TL/F them AND boost the attack by another die! Dash is along for the ride to both compensate in case Miranda is bumped onto a rock (where the TLT can also recover the damage she might have sustained!), and to doubly benefit her hiding behind obstacles. Miranda with a TLT and Dash shooting at Range 3 grants no additional evade dice, but receives two herself against Primary attacks! I'm particularly excited to run her as above alongside Super Corran for a pair of PS8 Rebel heroes that can each regenerate a shield a turn, which will hopefully make up for the fact that I've spent 99 points on two Small ships!

Finally, Talonbane Cobra is an absolute monster as-is as the only PS9 Scum pilot and his fantastic combat ability. I'm sure Predator or PtL alongside an Engine Upgrade will be very popular and powerful on him, regardless of dial, but the cheaper combo I can't wait to try is Lightning Reflexes, Stealth Device, and Glitterstim. It's one thing to move at PS9, it's another thing entirely to potentially pull a 1-K at PS9! Or even a 1-Sloop, if it really has a dial like the X-Wing. Given the state of the board, you might even pop the Glitterstim the same turn and double-stress to light up your opponent's VIP!

Alright, that's enough from me. What else is everyone excited to try?

I'm looking forward to everything about the punisher, and to finding out what the tie engine upgrade does, and to put 3 tacticians on the hounds tooth and make 180 degrees of stress be a thing.

Bossk with Lightning Reflexes, Gunner and two Tacticians.

I have this build I've been cookin' up:

Miranda Doni

Bombardier

Proton Bomb

PS6 K-wing

Same Build

Lt. Blount

Assault Missiles

+roughly 27 points left of something

Ks fly in, drop bombs and SLAM away, with Blount slapping what's left in the face.

I want Redline with fcs and as many cluster missiles as he can hold (4) and just blast away for years.

Did i miss the spoiler on what Twin Laser Turret does?

Yea, it is something like:

Att. 3

Range 1-3

You may perform this attack twice, if these attacks hit, cancel all results and deal one damage each.

Oh man I completely forgot about Bossk and Redline! They're super exciting, but the triple-Tacticiant alone on the YV is absolutely horrifying haha.

Redline, I'm less impressed by clusters (only one TL after launch, for both attacks) and more keen on Proton Torps (free eyeball to crit!) and Advanced Sensors->Boost->Proton Bomb->Maneuver. Absolutely Extra Munitions on that guy, he's gonna be beefy and relatively hard to pin down. He could be a neat compatriot for either Carnor or Juno!

@Panic: Yes, the Twin Laser Turret was spoiled as a 6 point turret that works at Range 2-3, and throws three red dice. However, you attack twice (like cluster missiles), and if you hit you only do one damage and then cancel dice (like anything ion or the flechette cannon, just without ion or stress).

so you can get a max of two damage?

Redline with fire control systems should get 1 target lock for the first shot from having two, then acquire 1 from the first shot for the second shot, then acquire 2 to be ready for the next round unless I'm seriously misunderstanding some cards.

The heavy bombers are in the perfect point range for a swarm+ build. That is, 72 points of swarm ships and one 28 point "power" ship.

so you can get a max of two damage?

Yes, which isn't bad in the face of something like the Blaster Turret where you'd spend a Focus up front and hope for about two damage to get through anyway. The important factors are that it works at R2-3 uniquely, it plus R3-A2 and the BTL-A4 title is going to be insane, Horton Salm really likes it, and it will help strip tokens from High-AGI targets like Soontir Fel!

Whoops! Didn't even think of FCS there, that sounds FANTASTIC

The only thing I actively dislike about Talonbane Cobra is that he'll be coming out at roughly the same time as that TIE Advanced who negates ranged bonuses.

I'm excited to run Boba Fett (Imperial) with the Slave I title, Extra Munitions and Proton Bombs. He gets two Proton Bombs at a significant discount, and actually uses the Slave I title card. It's hard to get a lot of Proton Bombs in a squad because they are so expensive, but the 3-point savings from Extra Munitions can buy you a decent Elite Pilot Talent, like Predator or Outmaneuver (which is pretty sweet on a Firespray).

Honestly depending on the amount of damage the Cluster Mines do I might need to Invest in the Most wanted Pack and run me some Eamon with the Slingshot Technique in mind.... walls of mines? yes please.

I am still curious to see if the hound has a primary arc, and a secondary 180 arc or

a primary and can shoot outside his arc up to 180.

if the former....triple tac will be amazing. To the point of not taking anything else but at least 2 tacticians at a minimum on the hound.

Either way, I am pretty amped up for everything about the hound and what it can do to make scum even more unique.

Emon, Slave-I, Extra Munitions, Cluster Mines. That sounds like my kind of party! Toss on a Recon Spec for when the bomb chutes are empty and we've half a list right there

and seeing as how Slave 1 IG B are popular, slide that beast right in there... boom complete.

Fickle's List of "**** Yeah, Wave 7!"

1.) YV-666

holy ****! Control (tactician) ship for scum! Big beefy buggers for Xizor to turn into fodder make friends with! SoT + Outlaw tech! 3 crew slots for the first viable int agent ship in scum! Best of all not a turret

2.) K-wing

have no idea what to expect from all these nifty bombs and missile/torp, and the new action added to the game, but that's part of the fun!

TLT just screams extra variety for Y-wings

Is a turret (sad :() but is also a 2-dice primary turret, which means it's a **** turret :)

3.) Glitterstim (just...glitterstim)

Emon as above, IGB with HLC, FCS, Thrusters, Vet Instincts...I think that leaves us with six points to go? Whaddya say, a pair of Hotshots?

Talonbane Cobra

- Opportunist

- Glitterstim

And Palob.

Possibly 6 dice to throw against someone.

Autothrusters on IGB, and a glitterstim for each.

Because being able to hit the oh-****-need-focus button, and then be focused against every attack that round is so very much worth it as a panic button.

Inertial Dampers finally has serious competition on my 'ace' ships. :)
