Tabletop Simulator

By Chainmaille Smith, in X-Wing

TTS is a breeze and much friendlier than Vassel, it has auto movement, bump detection (usually) and looks nice too. It's pretty darn close to the real thing.

I do wish the range ruler was transparent though. Ugh,

I believe you can right click on a ship, go to the comments/command section for it and type "T" then click away to check target lock range which also shows the firing arcs and range in a spider-web looking overlay. It's pretty cool.

I like the tabletopversion a lot for been 3D. Also you can lock targets from not moving. X-Wing miniature is more made for PC-game then tabletop.

Razgriz and Suriel...I added you guys on steam. I would really like to start trying this out. I bought this a while ago but gave up trying to figure it all out.

Thank you!

Make sure to download X-wing with auto movement and auto list spawner.

Vassal also has auto movement. Muon has done and awesome job with it and it is way better than it used to be. there is still a learning curve, but worth it, IMO. Have not tried the tabletop thing, have to give that a go as well.

The biggest problems that TTS had was lack of auto movement. Now that is a part of the game, and there's now basically only one advantage to using Vassal over TTS now, and that's that you have to buy TTS. TTS looks better, is more intuitive, more user-friendly, easier to set up, and easier to play.

I don't think TTS is unarguably more user friendly. I have a much easier time with vassal than TTS on a laptop and/or a slower system.

I would also say there is a good chance vassal has a higher level of player skill at the top, so that's something it has going for it. Paul Heaver, Morgan Reid, Blairbunke, Phild0, just to name a few top level players, frequent vassal quite often.

But again, there is no reason to lead players to believe one option is superior to another. Players are smart enough to use both and determine for themselves what is a better fit for them personally.

Hey guys! So me and JCDisaray are planning on a HotAC group on TTS. However, if there is enough interest, i proposed a combination of HotAC and the Age of Rebellion RPG. You would build a character in AoR, and all space battles would be done in X-Wing(or perhaps even Armada??? Who knows.) with the GM(myself) controlling the enemy craft. This is merely a proposal, and if there is no interest we will simply do a normal HotAC campaign.

Also up on the table is the possibility of custom ships in the campaign. If you like a ship thats not in X-Wing, but know of a 3d model online and are willing to build stats(that the group would have to approve of, of course), then we could work it out to get that model into the game.

Anyways, contact me or JCDisaray on Steam if you're interested in anything you've seen in this post.
