An article on Autothrusters...

By Hobojebus, in X-Wing

Really ffg? Four months scums been out every boy and his dog knows how autoceptors perform.

What does the tie only mod do? How's the Conner net work, what's the tie interdictors dial? Those thing we want to know not how to use a mod that was leaked nearly a year ago.

A lot of players will find some good info in that article.

But it has been a few weeks since we had any news. If August is an accurate wave 7 sell date then we're due for some spoiling any day now. My bet is on this Friday or next Monday.

Maybe those news articles are for ppl who don't know everything about the game yet.

That Chirneau build is awful.

Guyse, i just learned you could pair Fel and Chiraneau for a potent list. All you have to do is make sure to add weapons engineer, the moff and expose on Chiraneau for maximum destruction. Bonus hint: Don't forget those autothrusters on Fel, they help him dodge things.

Maybe somebody will even be so bold to bring Fel+Chir to Nationals, imagine the possibiltiies!

That Chirneau build is awful.

Its not too shabby actually, it has something for everything.

FFG saw people using only soontir and thought "maybe people don't realize they can put autothrusters on other ships"

"to X-Wing has allowed arc dodgers to make a huge return in the formerly turret-dominated meta"

....oh those poor naive fools

So one says the Chiraneau is awful and another says it is a potent list? :(

Do I really have to edit in those happy faces? :)

Link? I don't want to have to go look for it...

I think the chimmy build was designed to sell as many units as possible.

EI: yt2400

Expose: slave 1

WE: shuttle or falcon

RC: shuttle

Seismic: ig / slave 1 / tie bomber

That's 4 large base ships when you include the decimator itself.

Awesome job, FFG! A bunch of overly-optimistic crap we already knew, followed by some blatant lies:

As Andrew writes, there's no denying the impact that Autothrusters have made upon the ever-evolving X-Wing metagame. We've seen a tremendous amount of squad-building diversity throughout our ongoing 2015 Regional Championships season, and while much of this is owed to the entry of the game's Scum and Villainy faction, it is also thanks to the boost "arc dodging" strategies have gained from the Autothrusters upgrade.

The impact that they've made: SuperFel. And sorta the dual-IG lists.

And . . . (OMG the pain) . . . "a tremendous amount of squad-building diversity." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. HAHAHA. HAHA. HA. HA.

Nice article.

I LOVE IT

... now, FFG, tell us moar about Advanced Homing Missiles!

rather more excited about the new torps

Horton Salm awaits!

Last tournament I was in had 2 builds with turrets. One dual Decimator list, and one Han with Y escorts. The remaining 5 lists were all Non-turret lists. I did fly the Han with 2 Y-Wings/autblaster turrets. But I had flown 4 B-Wings the previous month for a victory.

Anyways, the point I am getting at is the meta is varied. If people in your area think the only thing they can fly AND win in a tournament is a decimtor or yt-2400 your just wrong.

I have really been having fun with 7 scum Z's, 4 feedback arrays and 2 cluster missiles. I am pretty sure this will be my next tournament list.

So I read the article.....then checked my mailbox......STILL no Raider!

Dual-IG without autothrusters almost definitely wouldn't be as good. I would prefer Mando Mercs if thrusters didn't exist, I think.

We have seen some unusual builds in the regionals lists. Most of the unusual lists just haven't done very well. Top 8 only and the diversity is slimmer. There's still a fair bit of variety there within the main types of meta builds you'll see but I certainly see the point. Large ship turrets in every top 8 except for one (IIRC).

Well, of course. It's still at the printers.

The lists in articles aren't really meant to be something an experienced player would bring to a competitive environment, guys. Obviously forum regulars are going to know all these things and build better lists. They're for newer players who play casual games with lists built around whoever their favourite character is.

Basically, FFG article lists are like the intro decks for card games. Terrible, but usually diverse so the new guys can improve on them and won't feel inadequate because they've been at it for a month and still can't build a better list.

So guys, I understand that a few of you are upset about the article. The article was a filler, there is no big base conspiracy, I wrote it because I absolutely love interceptors. I used different builds that are outside the norm because one thing I feel articles are supposed to do is get your brain working again. Something of a kickstart to help you look into new ideas and combinations that may be more effective than what is currently out there.

As for being upset about the raider, well I have no connection with raider production and this didn't affect my personal time at all. I'm thankful FFG allowed me to release an article!

now, to be fair to the article, the carnor + kath list at least looks interesting (though I'm not convinced carnor's ability gives that particular list enough to be worth it over soontir)

I assumed all this was true and I think it's the right way to go. I just can't stomach that Decimator build.

I actually really like the Carnor and Kath build, though.

Great article, man. You're still my hero, just like I told you at Store Championships a few months back.

I just need to figure out how to beat Soontir & Chiraneau builds (or "Whisper & Chiraneau) with my Soontir/Carnor/Yorr squad. I love it. It's strong against a lot of things. But I choke when I see Vader crew and Gunner across the table from me. I think I lose mentally before I even set the first dial.
