Defenders: the time has finally come.

I'd say you can also have fun without handicapping yourself. I'm as far away from telling people they have to stick to meta lists as possible(took EYY to top 8 at my regional), but defenders... can't endorse their viability. If one of them had IG 88B's ability...maybe.

What if the tie engine gives them green banks so they can take PtL? Think that could be a good enough bump?

With the actual dial, shredding stress is pain in the ass ...

But if you add those Twin Ion Engine Upgrades - no matter what those does - you will use your modification slot and so no room for defensive mods. If you run the 2 Defenders list you want to have defensive mods on both.

Have I mentioned already that Defenders need 4 shields?

So I doubt that this will be the solution for Rexler to take PTL

Defenders with 4 Shields would make me really happy.

Defender titles with a free convert-to-ion option on any shot that hits would be better. It's like your pulse missiles but free and always there!

Adding greens to the Defender would GREATLY help this ship. I too would hate to loose the mod over this fix (as I love EU on the named pilots) but it would open the door to more EPT possibilities.

Not taking away from his run, but his matchups were fairly favorable. No BBBBZ or Rebel control lists. I don't think he ever faced a PWT with an EU either. But that's what happens sometimes. You get match ups that work for you.

To be the only undefeated player at the end of Swiss (especially among the crowd who turned out for that regional) takes a lot of skill.

I played someone last night who copied this list (he loves Defenders). I am a fairly new player and only decent but wiped them pretty easily with a new list I was testing. I had some hot dice but my observation would be that the 2 Defender list will require someone who flys them deliberately and well. The Defenders a fun ship I hope the improvement makes it see more tables.

Yeah. That's true with a lot of "netlists", though. I've been using SableGryphon's regionals list a lot and have been trying to adapt it to my own style. I really love the idea behind it, especially the opportunity to actually use a Proton Bomb. I've been ending up getting tabled pretty consistently, usually losing 200-0.

Maybe it's just a matter of playstyle then. I'm undefeated with Sable's list. Anyone had good luck with that defender list?

I've been playing against brobots for the past four months and lost a grand total of once, doesn't mean the list sucks :)

What was Sable's list?

What was Sable's list?

Boba Fett + Vet Instincts + Engine Upgrade + Tactician + Proton Bomb; IG-88 B + Vet Instincts + Autothrusters + Advanced Sensors + HLC

VI on IG-88B makes it very good against brobots, Dash, non-VI RAC, and PTL Corran (if you get init). Boba with VI gives you advantage over Han and Soontir. Proton Bomb seems like a crazy choice but just wait for the right moment.

I think the Defenders should be 4/3/3/3 and the Phantom should be 3/2/2/3. Thematically makes more sense IMHO.

I've been playing a defender list that includes two delta squade pilots with nothing on them and one patrol leader. its a really solid build i think.

No the Phantom has 5 laser cannons - the Defender only 4.

The Defender needs the release of the Derpfender title card to achieve its full potential.

The ones under the cockpit are pretty small though, while the Defender's are all the size of the ones on the X-wing.

Those are still medium laser cannons, like X-Wings have them.

I guess everyone forgets the Interceptor has at least six guns, and some models have ten (two more each on the wing hubs). Dr. Saxton pointed this out on the models from ROTJ over a decade ago.

Besides the reason why Phantoms have attack of 4 is that they are sneaky fighters that can hit you where it hurts before you know they are there. And of course without cloaking they are glass cannons.

That's not consistent with any EU schematic or description of the craft, ever. The Interceptor has four laser cannons. One on each wing tip.

No, it's because it has 5 forward facing laser cannons. One on each wing tip, and two on the chin of the cockpit.

Is that interceptor being shot at?

TIE Interceptors, while they have 4 lasers in the Legends EU, which X-Wing Miniatures Game follows, only actually appear in one source in the current canon - ROTJ.

And in ROTJ, Interceptors have the same laser cannons as TIE Fighters and TIE Advanced x1s. Upon watching ROTJ again, it seems Interceptors do have the 4 wing tip lasers too, making 6 cannons canon

The TIE Defender doesn't just have four laser cannons - it also has two ion cannons (which are not always portrayed in the game as having the effect of ion cannons).

I've tried most of the oddball lists that made top 8's, just to see what they are capable of. The defender list was one of the least effective. I don't doubt that he had strong opponents, but that win is on the player, not those ships.

Jack: I don't think [insert anything] will ever do well.

Jill: [That thing] did well.

Jack: It must be some other reason.

Yes but, like you, and I, said, X-Wing Miniatures is based on the EU. Where it has 4.
