What's the Best Star Wars Movies Quote? (and why?)

By DanDoulogos, in X-Wing

For me, I suppose I've always liked Han Solo.

I remember seeing Episode V in the theatre, and it seemed Everything Han said was gold, Here's my favorite exchange:

Solo: Well Princess, it looks like you managed to keep me here a while longer.

Leia: I had nothing to do with it. General Rieekan thinks it's dangerous for anyone to leave the system until they've activated the energy shield.

Solo: That's a good story. I think you just can't bear to let a gorgeous guy like me out of your sight.

Leia: I don't know where you get your delusions, laser brain.

[Chewbacca laughs]

Solo: Laugh it up, fuzzball.

I think this was, for me at least, a defining moment for Han's character, and it is the first movie quote I memorized as a kid, and used in normal life - I don't know how many of my friends had to suffer through my squeezing the "Laugh it up, Fuzzball" line into as many conversations and situations as possible.

Mine is: NOOOOOOOO!

If only there were an Off Topic Sub-forum for things like this.

Compare & contrast - the overwrought overwritten cringeworthy love story in Episode 2-3 with:

"I love you!"

"I know."

"No Luke...I am your father"

Do. Or do not. There is no try.

--Yoda

I try to live by this every day. It's part of who and what I am.

Definitely the best. This cemented Han's character for me. Perfectly captures the essence of the character in only 2 words!

"No Luke...I am your father"

Is the misquote here intentional?

Do. Or do not. There is no try.

"Only a Sith deals in absolutes"

lol sorry - had to do it

"Never tell me the odds!"

Also my gf still gives me crap about the first time she told me she loved me. It was on Halloween, and I was dressed as Han Solo. I saw the opportunity and took it. She should have seen it coming!!

I came here to post the exact same thing.

"I'm afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive..."

-Emperor, RotH. His condescension just oozes.

My two sons, now 4 and 6, have been fascinated any time the moon is out and visible. Until last summer, when they watched Star Wars, they never understood my response to them when I would say, "That's no moon..."

"Size matters not. Look at me - judge me by my size do you? Hmm? And where you should not. For my ally is the Force. And a powerful ally it is. Life creates it. Makes it grow. It's energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you - between you, me, the tree, the rock. Everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship."

This is the absolute best Star Wars quote, and my favorite monologue in any movie. It shows that just because you are big and look tough doesn't mean that you are the best at everything. Ultimately, what determines how great you are lies in the mind, not the body. It shows that the Force is an integral part of both all living and non-living things, showing that we and everything around us is fundamentally connected on a level that is just beyond the visual.

That line about being luminous beings gives me chills every time, as Yoda reaches out to Luke's arm and calling it crude matter. It implies that there is more to us than we see, and the physical form we focus on really isn't as important as we might think.

It's just a brilliant quote.

"Shut him up or shut him down"

Every thing Yoda said.

"I don't know... I can imagine quite a bit." -Han Solo
"Well have you noticed the shields are still up!?" -Obi-Wan

It's a great quote insofar as it really sets out the religion of the force in a nutshell, but I'd certainly shy away from drawing value from it - docetic tendancies in a philosophy or religion lead to very bad outcomes.

My favorite quote is problematic, since there are so many:

No disintigrations.

The context for that quote makes it truly epic, with so much weight to the scene simply because of what it implies about the bounty hunters.

I care.

This one I quote all the time. It's just amazing to trot out when somebody drops a "who cares" cliche into a conversation. It's best to do it in Luke's voice, or as close as you can get.

He's more machine, now, than man, twisted and evil.

Such a great quote that really helps to define how the audience sees Vader. The revelation that he's essentially a cyborg, especially in light of Luke's mechanical hand, packs a lot into a few words.

There are so many.

If anyone here has read any of the books written by Eckhart Tolle(The power of Now, A New Earth), which deal with the Ego/Consciousness, one can see that SW has a lot of hidden wisdom in the dialogue.

The Light/Dark side of the force (for me and my understanding) pretty much directly correlate with the Ego/Consciousnesses topics Eckhart writes about to the point of collusion.

Yoda especially, even in the prequels was dropping deep truths every day people can use under the guise of 'The Force'.

To sum up, The Ego needs 'time' in order to survive, and does so by thought/thinking. Anakin was a being of almost pure ego, despite the 'prophesy'. And he even knew it, he knew 'jedi are better than this(what he was)' that was his Consciouness, but he loses his fight to Ego(attachment, desire) and makes him Darth.

Luke was too, he 'awoke' and attained consciousness toward the end of the trilogy, having seen the 'ego' in his father and ultimately recognized it fully.

"All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph. Adventure. Heh. Excitement. Heh. A Jedi craves not these things. You are reckless.

But this line here, is what shows that Luke himself, was on a spiritual journey toward consciousness but just in the 'wrong' way.

He couldn't see that in the 'now' is where he needed to be to complete the training to facilitate the future he truly wanted.

He could only use thinking, thought, fear of loss (ALL EGO) to drive him.

It took more pain for Luke to awake into consciouness and become one with 'The force', which now I simply see as The Force (of Consciousness).

Uh, sorry that's written horribly. I am just spouting thoughts at this point.

Much peace,

SW is inspiring stuff. Also read those books I mentioned.

"You Rebel scum."

Paraphrasing.

"Admiral Needa came out of lightspeed too close. He is as clumsy as he is stupid."

"Ah, my lord. We've just come out of hyperspace and are preparing to la--- *grrkkk*"

"You have failed me for the last time... Captain Piett, make ready to land our troops. You are now in command, Admiral Piett."

"Luke, at that speed will you be able to pull out in time?"

"and I thought they smelled bad on the outside."

"The dark side? I've been there. Do your worst."
