Vessery's new pals

By RsRabin, in X-Wing

So if friendly has a TL on someone and Vess attacks them, he gets the TL. If he uses the TL to reroll attack dice, does he gain another TL to be used next round, like FCS?

At least I don't think so... I would think that falls under modifying dice. Maybe I'm wrong?

Vader, Vessery w/ VI, maaerek stele.

They shoot in that order, too, so you've got maximum odds of getting stele's super-crits through.

You could also run Juno Eclipse (w/ VI, for that init trump perhaps?) but for some reason a second arc-dodger appeals less to me than a crit-spewing stele.

That's pretty much the first squad I'm going to run when the Raider hits.

Vader + ATC + Predator

Vessery + VI

Maareek + ATC + Predator

All 3 will hit hard.

Thats the list i've been using and yeah it wrecks most builds.

using juno with PTL is another options as well so all 3 get great action economy.

Solid, though I prefer

Vader + ATC + Engine Upgrade

Vessery + VI

Maarek + ATC

And then two points to taste; Lone Wolf can be a tasty option on Vader, for instance, or even chuck Adrenaline Rush on one or two Advanceds.

Either way, you've then got a flanker that can out-duel Soontir Fel, and a pair of murderin' thugs which can reap a terrible toll. With LW, Vader is a critical priority target - but then you're ignoring Stele and Vessery! - while with Adrenaline Rush, that first joust+K-turn becomes an astonishingly brutal proposition. With a Defender, the opponent is always wary about those K-turns; with Adrenaline Rush on his wingmate, I've seen the threat amplified to outright paranoia.

Vessery's ability acts as a pseudo-FCS that requires you to build an entire squad around his ability. Or atleast it used to, the Advanced Fix makes this a little more manageable.

And FCS itself is only 2 points and usually more reliable, so i dont see how his ability is top10 or even top5.

This is a pretty clear case of "do what the card says; don't do what the card doesn't say." Here's what the card says:

When attacking, immediately after you roll attack dice, you may acquire a target lock on the defender if it already has a red target lock token.

There's only one moment per attack that's immediately after you roll attack dice, so there's only one moment per attack where you could acquire a target lock token.

Nothing in Vessery's ability talks about "after you spend a target lock" or "after you attack."

Again I think that it doesn't work this way, however the reason you point to actually contradicts that... but my guess is that rerolling using a target lock would be considered modifying dice, not rolling them in the sequence of an attack. But again I'm not sure.

Yes this is why I ask. I feel like if I DO what the card says I would get another TL. I use the first one, while I'm attacking mind you, I roll attack dice ( you know, the red ones), I would get a another TL. It doesn't say "the first time you roll attack dice", or "once per round" etc like other cards do. You're also not modifying dice. I'm not changing a blank directly to another result. I'm rolling again the dice I want from the TL.

Edit: I think this will give the answer we are looking for. Under combat, step 2 "Roll Attack Dice" only happens once. Using a TL falls under step 3 "Modifying dice" so no extra TL for that
