So with the new advanced targeting computer coming out it seems like vader and vessery will get along pretty well. Not really sure what else you'd fill the list with... but just a thought.
Vessery's new pals
Perhaps..
Vader
Predator

Vessery
Lone wolf

Dark curse/backstabber

They shoot in that order, too, so you've got maximum odds of getting stele's super-crits through.
You could also run Juno Eclipse (w/ VI, for that init trump perhaps?) but for some reason a second arc-dodger appeals less to me than a crit-spewing stele.
Why named T/Adv? For the points you can get a 4th ship ![]()

I've used Vader, vessery and stele several times and they just ruin anything they fight, most of the time the target is dead before stele gets to use his ability.

Because tempests will have a hard time getting an early target lock (because of when they move) and are far more vulnerable ships due to predator, shooting late, and they lack Vader's double action. With that list, you're likely to be down three ships before they fire.
You have two great options in Maarek Stele or Soontir Fel. Running Vader with ATC and Fel with PTL leaves 5 points for a wide array of option for how to outfit any of them. I think three ship lists will be very strong once the raider hits.

And thus begins a new whining inducing Meta Era, BEHOLD, THE ERA OF THE UNDERDOGS!!!!!

Is that about right?
If small base front arc ships start wrecking Chirpy and Han, I'll be happy.
There may not be much of a time gap between the Raider drop and the next wave, so here's the list I've been daydreaming about:
V-Line Squad
Vader x1 ATC (30)
Redline FCS Extra Munitions Cluster Missiles (35)
Vessery (35)
The pilot skills are 9/7/6, Vader and Redline both have special TL efficiency (Redline with FCS is fun) and go before Vessery, who then may have greater target selection than when flying with only Vader.
Side note: Redline with FCS and Clusters is my favorite theoretical fat PWT counter.

You could also run Juno Eclipse (w/ VI, for that init trump perhaps?) but for some reason a second arc-dodger appeals less to me than a crit-spewing stele.
That's pretty much the first squad I'm going to run when the Raider hits.
Vader + ATC + Predator
Vessery + VI
Maareek + ATC + Predator
All 3 will hit hard.

I'm tempted to run the same but I might run VI on Vader as well to get the two point bid and always move after and shoot before Han and Soontir.
Then again, this might get flown a bit like a rebel three ship build, actually staying a loose formation. Undecided.

Thats the list i've been using and yeah it wrecks most builds.
using juno with PTL is another options as well so all 3 get great action economy.
The Advanced isn't the only thing in the Raider that works well with Vessary.
Colonel Vessary
- Heavy Laser Cannon
- Calculation (or VI, Determination, or nothing... this point is flexible)
Commander Kenkirk
- Determination
- Ysanne Isard
- PALPATINE
Two ships, both at PS6. Palpatine with an HLC Defender is a hoot. Being able to push a 3-hit HLC shot into 3-hits-1-crit is great on offense, while being able to guarantee an evade result makes their defense a lot more reliable.
Something you could do with those tempests, is run them with accuracy corrector, and basically just use your target lock to boost vessery while still rolling nothing but hits.

A Scimitar Bomber costs the same as those TIEs if you wanted to add a second ship that can target lock.
Accuracy Corrector TIE advanceds (the ones without the pilot skill or ability to fully take advantage of Advanced Targeting Computers such as Tempest) are also good because once those locks are acquired they're never incentivised to remove them (ATC wants to switch the lock to their current target).

Pretty stoked you like the idea Bio, it was your double defender list/write up that gave me the idea.
I also like the list with vader/vess/steele!
Could someone explain Vessery's ability to me? So if someone else has a TL on whoever Vess attacks, he immediately gets a TL also? And can use it to modify the attack he is currently performing?

Correct, and correct.
And this works very well with the upcoming TIE Advanced Title, TIE/x1 and the TIE Advanced only system upgrade, Advanced Targeting Computer because you typically will keep the target lock on the ship you're attacking on the TIE Advanced and then Vessery will also receive a target lock due to his ability. Both title and system upgrade being released in the Imperial Raider expansion.
Edited by IxidorLove Vessary just always have trouble finding suitable wingmates for him after you outfit him with anything. I've had the most luck just giving him predator or outmaneuver. I wish the defenders weren't over ousted by the cost of a hull upgrade; they are already expensive and adding another 3pts on that really starts to add up and weaken the overall squad.
I think I'll try Vessary with just lone wolf and 2 storms (with systems clearly) with NB and a targeting computer first flight and see. Not ANY wiggle room there for upgrades or mistakes though
Cool. I *thought* that's how it worked, but it seems worded funny , so I wasn't sure if there was some amazing synergy/combo I was not seeing.
Vessey's ability is a top 10, maybe even a top 5 ability in the game. The main problem with Vessery is that he's normally target number 1. Usually you have some Bombers, or a shuttle in support. Now with the Advanced you can bring Vader in to make your opponent second guess who he should shoot first.

Are you sure m8?
Vessery's ability acts as a pseudo-FCS that requires you to build an entire squad around his ability. Or atleast it used to, the Advanced Fix makes this a little more manageable.
And FCS itself is only 2 points and usually more reliable, so i dont see how his ability is top10 or even top5.
Don't get me wrong, his ability is easily better than Rexlar's (which is usefull about 1 time every 10 games or so), but that doesnt make it awesome. It's basically just a free action if you go through multiple hoops to make it work. If the Defender didnt have such an awful dial for PTL he could literally do this every turn.

I think Advanceds and Vessery will play well together, but I would advise against running ATC on low PS Advanced pilots for the reasons AlexW points out. Accuracy Corrector is far better. You'd be better served to put 2 more points into Vessery and cut all 3 Tempests back to free Accuracy Correctors, then have them pick up target locks on whoever they want/need to and just keep them for Vessery's benefit. Tempests are great ships that can use their actions for something other than offense when equipped with an Accuracy Corrector.
