action bar tokens

By javasco, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I star to use my X-wing core and some other ships that I bought also and when I started to read the rules I found out that there are some actions bars that every pilot or ship has that give an advantage to it from others but I have to ask cause it does not say clearly. This actions bars transform into tokens, after you used them or not in the combat phase then the tokens turn over to the supply tray. But every turn you pick up the action tokens you should used so the are endless during the game? Or you have only one time you can used them. i.e. if you have a boost action, or a barrel action, or focus, or evade. Can you use focus or evade every time you get in combat?

Hope you can explain me better how to used the action tokens given by the action bars of the ship cards.

Thank you

Generally speaking, after you perform a maneuver, you check for pilot stress. If you are not stressed, you may perform 1 action. The actions are listed in your action bar. For a TIE Fighter, you may choose to focus OR evade OR barrel roll. You may only choose 1. If you choose focus or evade, you place the corresponding token by your ship's base. You can discard that token to gain its benefit during the combat phase. For example, during an attack in which you are defending, discard the focus token to turn all eyeball results into evade results. After discarding the token, you can no longer turn eyeballs in to hit or evade results. If you do not use the token by the end of the round, it is gone.

You don't automatically get those tokens every round. You only get them when you choose that action to be your 1 action for the round. But you may choose the same action in consecutive rounds. In other words, you don't have to choose a focus token this round, and then an evade next round, etc.

When you have moved your ship you may perform an action that is on your action bar. Some of these actions have tokens (Focus, Evade, etc) and others are in the form of maneovres (Boost, Barrell Roll, etc). If you are using a token place it next to/on your ship.

At the end of the round, remove these tokens from the play area. During your next movement phase you may place them again, at the base of your ships.

Keep in mind there are exceptions to the above. For example, Target Locks (TL) are NOT removed at the end of the round. If you are stressed you cannot perform ANY actions. Some upgrades/pilots may allow you to perform 2 actions per round.

The action bar is simply what that individual ship is allowed to do.

Budgernaut is correct on all accounts. Here it is explained a little differently, oversimplified of course:

Activation Phase

1. Reveal Dial

2. Move

3. Perform action (if able, and just 1)

Evade Action: gain an evade token to use later

Focus Action: gain an evade token to use later

Barrel Roll Action: perform a barrel roll now

Boost Action: perform a boost now

Target Lock Action: acquire a target lock now to use later

Evade and focus tokens are discarded at the end of the round, if they weren't used.
