First custom paintjob: Firespray

By demon3o5z, in X-Wing

Haven't really painted miniatures since I got out of 40K.

Got into X-Wing and been wanting to paint up my Firespray.

Looking for thoughts, and tips (hands aren't so steady).

Also, wondering what people use to get that glossy look for cockpits.

Thanks.

It has been a while, but I used to be able to achieve a glossy look using inks.

Thanks. Maybe I'll give that a try.

Some people swear by mixing Future (floor wax) in with their washes to help it flow, but I've always just used gloss medium (like GW's 'Ardcoat) mixed with a couple drops of color over the base coat. I did some ultra-glossy Black Templars that way and was happy with the result.

I've seen it referenced a lot as something you can add to acrylic washes to make them pool less and flow into cracks better.

You're right, of course... I so rarely get to dispense advice that I got too excited and completely mixed up what I was going to say.

Or you could use a brush on gloss coat.

I use top coat clear fingernail polish. Its very shinny, I took it from 40k where u sued it on gems. It does wonders On them.

All helpful stuff folks! Thanks. Think I'll try that 'ardcoat stuff.
