This probably has to do with the fun play style and the fact that my most recent opponent nicknamed it the "Bull Shark" but I have to go with the Gladiator. I mean, it's smaller than the VSD but seems to provoke more fear at times. Very fun. Though, nothing beats the feeling of putting down a Star Destroyer on the field. Just makes me feel cold and metallic inside, maybe a little wheezy too.
Quick Poll - Which Wave 1 ship do you like the most?
I really love the aesthetic of the Gladiator. It's effective of course, but I really like its lines.
Assault Frigate MKII's are made of win and I like winning.
don't worry, when I finally get Lets talk tactics ep 6 out (nebulon-b) I will prove there usefulness
...
There is basically no bad ship in W1
...
I'm not sure I agree... the non-Salvation Nebulon B's have fared exceptionally poorly on the table both for and against me so far.
Edit: To explain, it's the combination of very weak sides (especially with the Gladiator around now) and the lack of options (you can't expose your side, so you end up being very predictable and straight line, which makes it easy to plan to fight against them).
yeahI I've had incredibly positive experiences with them
the weakness of their sides is present, but heavily exaggerated on the forums. They don't go pop unless you really put them in a bad place.
The weakness is not its side shieldings by itself, but the combinations of weak shielding with the unavailability of any redirects. Any amount of total damage dealt above one will be applied to hull if received on sides of an unscarced Neb, which defines its weakness in my opinion. There is a chance for eating crits (with all the available range of devastating results) from a single barrage to the sides, which makes the Neb so unforgiving to errors or an enemies tactical supremacy.
Regarding the poll, favorite ship is the AF, with a Vic I upgraded towards carrier role rolling in on a close second spot. I like the flexibility of the AF as she can perform well in very different roles, and so far her better shielding and good engineering value brought her up to VSD terms of survivability in my experience. However, using a Vic as a carrier, possibily doing the TIE flying sounds on every activation is a special fun for itself..
Space whale followed by the Gladiator.
I have three contenders.
Victory: it only does one thing well, and that one thing isto punish the hell out of your opponent's misplays. But man, it's so satisfying when your dual VSD, dual gunnery team list is presented with two targets in the front arc. Nothing else feels quite like it, aside from advanced gunnery paragon.
Gladiator: easy to lose, but it's fast and it's scary and who doesn't love that combination?
Corvette: it's just fun. Needs numbers to be scary, but can be a very capable support ship if you just want to run one.
Nebulon B Escort Frigates and CR-90 Corvette A's. Corvettes are so good for circling and rushing while I enjoy the flexibility and utility of the command, squadron and anti-squad values of 2 on the frigates. Aside from the lack of shielding on the sides I find them extremely enjoyable craft to play with and plan with.
GSD.... Now a 2nd GSD beckons
at 400 points, 3 to 4 GSDs...
I'd love to but no space
Asthetically: victory, hands down. Best looking destroyer, bar none. Vindicator is second, here's to hopeing it's in wave 3/4.
As for effect, the Gladiator is simply phenomenal. I didn't care about it at all, asthetically, but it plays like a dream.
Raider and MC30 are my wave 2s for sure. Rebel glad and a fast imp flanker/squad killer? Hells ya
Nebulon-B I've always had a massive soft spot for them and they are still my favorite capital ship from the Star Wars movies. For that matter so far it is my favorite capital ship in the new canon. While the Legends computer games, novels, and comics plus the FFG RPG have all introduced capital ship models to Star Wars that I prefer to the Nebulon-B none of those made it into wave one,

Oh...I would like to see them, but I'll snag one off shapeways in the future, as I doubt they'll make it into the game: Carracks. I love those ships...if a box can be sexy, it'd be a Carrack Cruiser ![]()
Star Destroyer is pick

This.
gladiator with demolisher.
I wanted to like the space whale the most, but demolisher is just amazing.
