Organization: Card binder sheets for both large and small cards? A better way?

By TheBard, in X-Wing

Hey guys. I am hoping to have a better way to organize all my cards so I can setup quickly (takes way too long to sort through cards before games if changing squads!)

I am pretty sure there are binder sheets for large cards. Are there binder sheets for small cards too? I thought I saw someone with them, but I can't recall. Plus a way to organize base cardboard pilot squares and dials would also be nice.

Which large/small binder sheets would you recommend?

And it seems to me binder sheets would work best unless someone else has a better suggestion?

Thanks!

I use a "business card" card sheet for the upgrade cards. It is not ideal though, as there is enough extra room that the cards sometimes fall out.

What I've used are binder sheets that sideload for small cards. They're made for the larger cards but you can fit two side-by-side this way and it's easy to pull them out. Ultra Pro makes a nice folder/binder that has the side-loading slots. I'm not sure if they sell the sheets on their own or not.

There have been some that have suggested Tobacco trading card sheets for the small cards. IIRC others say they don't quite fit (especially if you protect your cards with sleeves).

For the cardboard pieces... I really don't know. I just have mine in a Husky toolbox and they aren't well organized.

Ya I go with the normal trading card sheets for large and small cards. I actually prefer top load however tho. What happens with Side load is as you turn pages the small cards fall out because of gravity facing inwards as you flip the pages whereas with top loads as you flip the pages the cards don't slide out unless pulled out from the top. Also another suggestion is get a zip up binder that way if any cards do make their way out they are still sealed inside the binder.

I've not actually had that problem. I use the FFG sleeves on the small cards and they fit very snuggly, haven't hard cards move unless I physically nudge them.

I have tried a few things - found some old photo archive pages that work.

- For the Pilot Cards, normal trading card sheets work - got them from a friend who bought a big pack.

- On Small ship bases, 35 mm storage pages are just the right size and top load to prevent falling out

- There is also a 4" x 5" size, which is good for big bases. I had some old 3.5" floppy pages that turn out to work.

- The 3.5" x 3.5" photo page size is likely good for 2 upgrade cards side by side.(see below)

- I am trying the 35mm storage sheets for my upgrades. The tops of the cards stick up, but I don't use the top row and it gets me about 16 per page.

Photo Archival pages are what these are usually referred to as and here is a link to one supplier.

The Ace at our flgs uses binder pages designed to hold coins for the upgrade cards. I use a Flambeau parts box. If some one will tell me how to post pics I'll upload what I've done.

Any side loading Ultra Pro binder works well. Fits two small cards per large card slot. Never had any problem with the cards slipping out while they were sleeved.

Here's what you do. You get some side loading Ultra Pro sheets. Then you get a steel ruler, some pliers and a nail. You put some spare upgrade cards in the BOTTOM half of each pocket of your side loading sheet. Then you cover them with a steel ruler, so that the ruler is marking off the bottom half of the top row of pockets.

Then, holding it in the pliers, you heat the nail in your flame. Then, working quickly, you press it down and 'draw' a series of dashes across the middle of the pockets, using the steel ruler as a guide. Don't be afraid to melt right through the plastic. Then you repeat it for the second and third row of pockets. The spare upgrade cards are there to serve as a guide, so you know where to place the ruler.

Voila. You now have perfectly sized pockets for your upgrade cards. They won't fall out and slide around like they do in the full size side load pockets, you won't have to jam your fat sausage fingers into each pocket to get cards out of the bottom like you do with the regular top load sheets, and ten minutes work will give you more sheets than you'll ever need.

2.5" coin page cards for the small cards and baseball card pages for the big ones..
