Super Dash Corran Horn Shenanigans - What's your strategy?

By VaynMaanen, in X-Wing

Go after Dash first, get wrecked with Corran double tap. Go after Corran first, get wrecked with 4 dice from Dash with no defense range bonuses while you chase Corran and do little damage to him with his green/evade/BR shenanigans.

With a good pilot, this is my nightmare list. I want to see what everyone's best strategy against this list is.

Stress? Crits? Blocking? Ions? Crying?

Crying works best.

Kath+mangler+tactician+EU. Makes double stress, dash shuts down if you can force range two, corran is in bad shape too. Phantom STILL causes hell to my day with dash as well

Smoked it yesterday with:

Just focus down whichever you can ion first.

You gotta get into R1 of Dash and kick him in the ****.

Corran does suck to go up against. Really it depends on what you are running, but in general you can't go wrong trying to kill Mr. Doubletap first. You can however fail to kill him in 2-3 turns and you will likely lose. It also depends on what your opponent does. If he holds Corran back and gives you decent shots at Dash, then you best take them.

If Corran does have a weakness its his sticking to green maneuvers when you get some damage on him. That can be exploited if you got some blockers. If he can't action, he can be a sitting duck.

It depends entirely on the builds. They can't run the real super Dash with the tankiest Corran.

If Corran doesn't have advanced sensors then trying to get a couple hits followed by a block is a good plan.

If Dash isn't the real 58-point mobility build then blocking him into range 1 exchanges is your best plan.

Rebel control wrecks this list hard. Stress crushes Dash's damage output as well as his ability to dodge arcs. Get an Ion or stress into Corran Horn and you can shut his shenanigans down muy pronto.

If your list lacks any sort of control feature, it is going to be a very tough matchup.

R3-A2 is your friend (or rebel captive if imp)

If PTL Corran, Dash is going to have a sh*tty mangler and really isn't that important. Stress Corran, focus him down, move on to Dash

if V.I Corran, double stress Dash will greatly hinder his maneuverability and force him to vere off course in order to bring HLC shots to bear, which are far less dangerous with only Kyle focus and potentially obstructed. Focus Corran, move onto Dash

of course, you shouldn't fall for the 2-ship build bait and switch. Corran can't really do it well at all (he's no soontir or fattie), but if he **** off he's not influencing the battle (he's not a stupid PWT and actually has to care about his facing) and you can bring your ships to bear on Dash (who cannot regenerate shields). Choosing who to focus is going to depend highly on positioning, but you should make Corran a reasonable priority because he dies very quickly if focused down. Mainly, his excessive durability comes against 2-ship builds since he will laugh off 50% of their firepower.

And I've made a season of smoking builds like this. Extremely easy matchup. You'll beat dash/corran netlisters though probably.

Much easier said than done. Almost never happens to me even against higher PS boosting ships etc. Can happen though. I will say this and the above point are probably the two main pitfalls players trying to pick up the list will fall into though.

What's up carlos? You playing against brian (think that's his name?) alot? Should be fairly easy to donut hole him since he doesn't use ptl etc.

There are only 2 stress cards that are any real threat. Captive and the droid. The rest are hopelessly conditional. Captive can be soaked by Corran (one of the many many reasons why he is the best wingman). The droid can be avoided fairly easily, but does come with no margin for error pretty much so, again, is a pitfall players will fall into with this list. That =/= a rough matchup for the list though. This list never fails you. You fail it. Period.

I think it is more helpful to suggest strategy rather than builds. Anyone can make a build that will do well versus list xyz.

Anything with Lando hates stress. Horn hates stress... FLECHETE DELTA SPAM AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! or just, yknow, a squad FILLED with bombs.

There's also the third variant: the PTL Corran/Lone Wolf Dash. That variant eschews engine upgrades in favor of an HLC for Dash and a Hull Upgrade on Corran.

That said, I tend to regard Corran as the most dangerous. With PTL, FCS and R2D2, he can soak a large amount of damage, which makes killing him while you still have the ships to do it of paramount importance. Try to exploit his need to execute green maneuvers to set up blocks, which will eliminate his focus/evade shenanigans. Then pour everything you have into him and hope you can finish him before he escapes.

Dash is dangerous, but he can't render his damage taken useless the way that Corran can.

Dash can't Rendar his damage useless* :P

Prox Mines are great vs high PS Corran. Move, drop bomb and watch him pick up those 3 dice and destroy himself. It's glorious. For me prox mine is one of the most undervalued ways to kill small based high PS ships. Imagine prox mines with Palpatine! Add a crit to those dice with no chance to evade. Well sounds like I've got a new list to create.

Proximity Mines are rolled by the player who hits the mine, so Palpatine doesn't guarantee a crit with them. He can help you avoid damage if your own ships are hit, though.

You know I've been thinking about running Imp Kath with Mangler too! I'm surprised she's not seeing as much play as her Scum version. Dat booty shot is too good though

my theory on this is that scum firesprays conform more to the model of large bases going less control and more "superman" with tons of damage mitigation and dice modification

the added damage die out the butt and the K4 security droid help scum kath hit that sort of playstyle with 2 agility + focus + evade/boost + target-lock

I forgot to mention rear admiral chiraneau. Have yet to successfully win a game with dash against RAC+issard :(
