TIE Fighter

By GML, in X-Wing

Just got into playing X-wing a couple of weeks ago. With how long the game has been out, my LGS has only been able to carry stock since March. I won a $90 gift certificate to the store from a recent 40k tournament, which I used to get started.

While I do enjoy the fact that the models are pre-painted, a part of me wasn't a huge fan of how every model people are playing looks identical. After spending some time on the forums and seeing some of the repaint jobs that were being done, I figured I would try it out on a TIE fighter. That way, if I totally muck it up, it's on a model I don't use as often as my Interceptors.

Anyways, it actually turned out pretty well, looks quite a bit more sinister than the light grey hull, so here it is.

Finally, some comparison shots on how the model started, to the finished job:

Wow, that's awesome.

That is a very nice paint job there.

Nice clean paint job and the red works well.

I like the bright trim on the dark panel separators. Looks great!

That's nice fading on the red.

Nice!

I did a black wash on the metallics to darken them a bit, and that did wash out the final highlight, so I think I am going to go back and do the final highlight again on the black. I am going to post some more of my repaints in here. I'm going to keep with a unified theme through out my ships, so nothing is really going to stand out as being special, but the ships will look better overall.

I LERVES the red jeweling on the canopy! While aesthetically I'm not a fan of the red on the panels, you executed it incredibly well.

Excellent repaint!

To each their own on the red lol. The main reason I went with the red is because I looked at my paints and it was really the only colour that I could do a good contrast on. I recently painted up an army for 40k and was completely out of blue paint, so it left me with little options. I don't think a green fade would have turned out as well.

I was kind of surprised at how the canopy turned out though. Any time I have done jeweling like that, it has always been blue. So this was my first time with the reds and it is a much simpler process on small areas like that.
