How the Meta shaped my style, kind of a regionals rep.

By Greedyfly, in X-Wing

hence the problem

the less of an overall presence they are, however, the less chance you'll run into one

and there are definitely less now than there were during wave 5, which means the tournament scene is improving

I agree, every regionals top 8 being 50% fat turrets is obnoxious but it's better than the Wave 5 meta.

Even if all wave 6 did was add IG's to the meta, it helped bring a little variety. IG's can get quite obnoxious with their action economy too but they don't have a turret so they're the 2 ship meta build that's actually fun to fly against. Also they're probably the easiest to deal with when you're playing a swarm or power quad rebel build or any other type of, 'normal build'.

First time I ever flew a swarm (Etahn with Zs) I ended up playing some Brobots. On the third turn, I managed to block one of em' and then proceed to take it from full health to dead in a single round of fire.

Is an Outrider considered a PWT?

I'll never understand this, there is a part of the game that a very vocal minority says it's incredibly boring and unfun to play against at tournaments. If it's so boring and unfun then why pay in tournaments?

Totally agree. As long as certain builds do well and win, they will be played. There is no way to change this. If it's so terrible to play, then why are the numbers from the tourneys growing. Just have fun with the game.

Is an Outrider considered a PWT?

personally, I don't. Personally, the range 1 bubble of the HLC gives it a blindspot (so, infinitely more chances of counterplay) and the mangler is so underwhelming (Especially since it has no range 1 bonus) that I so rarely have to experience it. Technically, it also isn't a pwt because you have to use the cannon instead and can't switch on a whim

Given the 2-dice primary, though, even when you hit a munitions failure and go back up to range 1-3, you're not happy about it :P

having also flown against title-less HLC yt-2400s (fringer w/hlc + int agent, it's good fun!) you actually achieve a lot by getting out of that arc even if you didn't bring auto-thrusters (and you lose a lot if you let it fat roll to block you :()

but yes, technically the YT-2400 (not outrider) is a PWT. It's just not good enough at it to be a problem :P and is therefore very enjoyable to play against even with the title (see also: K-wing, when it comes out)

If you want to make people think twice about Decimators bring out out good old buddy Rexlar, a Decimator even a Fat one isn't too scary once you have 3-4 crits stacked up on it, yes you might want Yorr hanging around or someone else at PS 8-9+ to absorb the RC stress but if more people use Rexlar and there are a bunch of ATC X1s flying around Decimators might start dropping off a bit

I wouldn't bank on crits

I don't want to change my name to ficklecritdamage, but if I had a penny for every -1 agility, damage during red maneuver, and munitions failure I've drawn on a Decimator then I could buy my very own decimator <_<

You do deny the extra bonus die at range 3 with the Mangler. Ideally that's the sweet spot to keep your 2400 in. Of course you really don't want to do that against anything with ATs. You got to try and point your turret at them.

Nooo!!!! not my green die! What ever will I do without it :(?

(but yes it is an advantage, it's just compared to the HLC it hits like a wet noodle. I'd take a mangler outrider over a PWT any day)

While I am inclined to belive that large turrets are slightly out of balance, I think that something as simple as restrictions the engine upgrade card to small ships is all that it will take. Automatic damage (Vader/emperor) and multiple actions are challenging, but the one thing that makes them broken IMHO is the boosting. They already move faster by virtue of the size of their base, but to make what is a 1 space boost an automatic 2 due to base size just pushes it too far.

Not that it matters. I think it will be too hard for FFG to pull that one back (eg Millennium Falcon) and they will try to scab over it with yet another complication like bombs, turning the game into a tabletop version of Frogger.
