Pic of Wave 2 ships

By Cubanboy, in Star Wars: Armada

Why wasn´t the ISD chosen as the starter kit ship? The game has yet to take off where I live (I´m still on the fence myself). I imagine a lot less people could resist with that amazing looking, iconic monster included as a launch piece.

Probably several reasons, but possibly 1) the ISD is considerably larger than the VSD model so it would be very difficult to fit an ISD AND Rebel forces in the box - considering that there would need to be significantly more rebels needed to counter it.

2) to give people a reason to want to buy expansion packs. Seriously, if they put the ISD in the core then how many Imperial players would buy anything else?

3) Depth of mechanics/Fine tuning. By getting the smaller ships working right first, it has given FFG more time to work on the cards, upgrades and abilities of the epic huge ships we are waiting for. I have no doubt they would be disappointing if they tried to have them crammed in the core set without having other upgrades and such that we got in the core/wave 1 to make them even more awesome. (like Motti, as someone said).

That means motti adds 3 health to the star destroyer! :o

And they are probably greater than range 1 across, so one squadron on one side would not engage another.

Ships count as obstructions and break engagement anyway.

Ships count as obstructions and prevent engagement, but that doesn't prevent obstructed squadrons from attacking each other. Those attacks will be at -1 attack die because of the obstructions, but the attack can still go off if so desired. But if the base of the ship is wider than range 1, that will prevent attacks at all.

I'm not sure if breaking engagement prevents attacking though.

Heavy prevents engagement but attacks can still happen.

Engagement is prevention on moving away.

Theses were the original reveal shots for an expo shortly before Armada launched in the wake of the dockworkers strike and the inevitable delay of wave 1. FFG had to show "something" to try and keep people excited in the game so they showed off the draft, unpainted, prototypes for the Wave 2 ships.

Painted versions have now been revealed since then - these were only the originals that probably wouldnt have been shown to the public if the launch had gone as planned. (i.e. Core and Wave 1 together in February).

Having the ISD will greatly jack up the price of the Core Set not to mention you'll be needing at least one more Rebel ship to balance them out. As it is, the entry price of this game is already significantly prohibitive for most people.

The ISD is half the core set and would need to be balanced by a greater number of ships. This means a $200 core set. That would have killed the game before it started. It would have been a PAIN to maneuver around a 3x3, it would take up half your 180 starting points. . . Want me to go on?

Got photos of them all at star wars celebration . Just dont know how to upload them from my phone

Please figure out how to :P

So in an effort to help because I'd really like to see them as well (I guess there weren't many Tabletop fans at the Celebration as I haven't seen any other pictures surface).

Though I dont know what kind of phone you have.

If you use Google Drive you can generally upload them from your phone to drive then DL them to your computer. You can also try connecting your phones charging cord to your personal computer and rummaging through the files from there. I'm sure that stuff has probably already dawned to you but, maybe this will help.

Uh, wait a minute. The size of the MC30c Frigate is supposed to be slightly less than half the length of the even the smallest MC80 Star Cruiser (which is 1,200 meters long). Why does it look nearly as long as the MC80 then?

You know i am really not a Star Wars scale nerd, but this picture of the miniatures is a little disturbing. The mightiest ship in the Rebel arsenal looks like a MiniCalamari instead of a MonCalamari!!! And if we would see it compared to an Assault frigate (900m length) we would probably see that it is not much longer and pretty thin as a consequence. The AFII will seem at least as massive as the larger based MC80. A little shorter but bigger. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me!

So i looked up Wookiepedia. It says the Home One subclass was estimated 1200-1600m by some very dubious sources like video games. You know i love X-Wing Alliance but taking it as a source in this case... Because this looks like the absolute minimum version of the ship: 1200m

What i also found out is that the Home One (Ackbars flagship, not the ship subclass of MC80s as they appear to be two different pairs of shoes) from pictures in the actual RotJ movie was estimated at 2,5km minimum and up to 3,2km in some estimations (that would be double the length of an ISD!) I understand they didn't want it that big, but the size they gave it now seems totally esthetically off!

I just hope that this is the Home One subclass and that they will bring the real Home One in a subsequent wave. Although having Ackbar and the title in this "Tiny One" does not give me a lot of hope for this...

Just my two cents: They should just have gone with the 1600m version. Would still look pretty slim compared to an ISD at the same length, but perhaps not like a fight between a Polar Bear and a Hamster!
