Anyone know the math on Luke's ability? Assuming no defense tokens, is Luke better than 3 green dice?
Luke's Ability vs 3 Green Dice
Luke would be 8/8ths
3 dice would be 9/8ths plus tokens
but lukes ability really shines when hes being shot more than a once as its basically like his focus stays forever! for...ev...er
Luke ability is effectively Autothrusters before Autothrusters... A proto-thruster if you will.. Or FocusThrusters if you don't like Hyphens.....
If R2-D2 and R5-P9 are elsewhere R2-F2 makes a good droid for Luke. And if you have an extra 3pts you've the PTL or EI routes.

Well not really, because there are more blanks on a green dice than there are foci.
The problem with Luke's ability is that he can still only prevent 2 damage against a single roll. Meaning anytime your opponent rolls 3 or 4 hits (or Gods forbid 5) he is going to take damage. 5 HP doesn't go very far unfortunately. R2D2 is an an expensive evade token that requires you to wait till next turn (nominally shield regen is worse than an evade, but it does allow to recover from a bad spot, unlike evade tokens).
If Luke could take an evade token he would actually be a really stellar ship (evade should have been an option for the X-wing). Despite his ability essentially trying to prevent him from dying to bad dice rolls, he ironically still dies to bad dice rolls. Lonewolf does help somewhat, but you are then constrained by range (and can still only stop 2 damage per shot).
Luke in an E-wing would be a pretty amazing, but the X-wing is not really good enough to support his ability (at least currently). Luke plus Lonewolf and R2D2 is 34 points, so pretty close to Fel, or Vader with Engine and ATC, and he doesn't come close to being a match for them.
Lone wolf is the best ability for luke, since you get a good shot at getting an evade/focus on your blank reroll.
