Just enough to be dangerous

By Torpid Rebel, in X-Wing

I'm talking about knowledge!

Specifically the spoilers that FFG gives out about the ships before they're released.

Is anyone else feeling this?

When I opened the entirety of Scum in wave 6, I didn't even look at the cards. I put them straight away because I knew what they all were. The zest was gone.

To clarify, I love spoilers! I am so pumped up for wave 7 right now, and can't wait for the articles they do on them, but by the time they are released, the same thing will happen. I know EVERYTHING about them.

I'm thinking, hold back on just one or two things. Maybe hold back the middle of the range pilots. Maybe hold back the dial. I don't know. I know a lot of people proxy these ships in as soon as they can, but I'm saying, how about... don't?

TLDR: I want suspense!

They generally leave at least 1 card unspoiled.

I have a feeling that the large news gap between Wave 6 and 7 was to allow Wave 7 to be at the printers long enough to shorten the announcement to release cycle. That way we're not salivating over unreleased ships for too long (I'm looking at YOU raider!).

*rocks back and forth* the raiders coming...Any day now...sooooooooooooon!

I'm with you on this. I enjoy opening up the pack and seeing the wonderful newness.

FFG has to walk a line of keeping different types of people engaged, and for a lot that's online spoilers beforehand, but I agree that spoiling everything except 1 pilot per is, well, pointless if it's not the highest PS/most potent version.

I'd love to see them hold back more info. Extend some bits out there, but not everything.

I'm not with you on this.

I like to actually know what I'm getting with a product before I buy it.

I want to know how many of each ship I should preorder.

(If) the meta or certain ships/upgrades are in a bad spot I also want to have fix cards to look forward to.

Oh yeah, I think that some cards are ripe for being spoilers, fix cards among these.

Now, FFG has got me. They could give no spoilers, not even show what the ship looks like, or any of the cards inside it, and I'd buy it, and I'd thank them for taking my money. I think most people on these forums are the same. I'm just saying, how about make me actually want to open those boxes to find the surprise inside instead of just waiting until I need to get it out to play because I already know everything inside it.

I think that showing off everything but the dial would be a great idea. Also because it feeds into my pet peeve of people playing ships months before they are released, but that's just me.

Also, I am aware that everything will become spoiled on the day, as anything you hold back will be instantly posted on blogs, probably these forums too. But hey, I like to dream!

I think the same thing basically. If they need to fix or rebalance something, spoil it right away. Then give a few other cards and pilots to tease the community!

And keep the rest for the release. I don't have anything against vassal, but honestly just getting a new ship and already knowing every single detail, combo and trick is just something i would prefer not to have. I would like to discover these things with the rest of the community!

I play casual so knowing things in advance let's me proxy upgrades months before release I've been flying the improved tie advanced for yonks.

But yeah it can be frustrating to wait but due to ffg doing such a good job it's usually worth it.

Rather wait a few months than have garbage released weekly.

I think we all know which company we're talking about when saying they release garbage weekly, and yes, having come over from the abuse and neglect that company doles out, I am loving FFG's stance on upcoming releases.

But I think me and ForceM are in the same camp.

I am aware of the notion that I could just... not read the previews, but that's much harder than it seems on paper.

When it comes to spoilers too much too soon is the problem. It's one thing to know what's coming in broad brush strokes but when it's so far away they can keep a lot of the specifics hidden.

To look at the Raider they started us out with this completely new ship which should have been enough for a while. Of course we see the Advanced with it and wonder so the magnificent upgrade to that ship gets mentioned but now people are mad because they need to wait for it. After that what do we see spoiled... not much that I care about until the got to Palpatine which is an interesting power card.
