Tantive IV Ability

By Edsel62, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

I have the Tantive IV; here is how I believe it is meant to work.

Case 1: I reveal my Command Dial and choose to use it to full effect so the special ability of the Tantive IV is not invoked. Result: Tantive IV has expended the Command Dial and gains no token.

Case 2: I reveal my Command Dial and choose to trade it in receive a Command Token which I keep on the Tantive IV. Again the special ability of the Tantive IV is not invoked. Result: Tantive IV gains a Command Token.

Case 3: I reveal my Command Dial and choose to trade it in receive a Command Token. Before I receive the Command Token I invoke the special ability and pass the token on to another friendly ship within range. However I chose to trade in the Command Dial to get the token so the Command Dial is still expended. Result: Tantive IV gains no benefits from the Command Dial and receives no token since it was passed to another ship.

Does this logic sound right to you?

So far sounds right, yes. Tantive IV's ability is to give up gaining a token to give it to another ship in range. It can still gain tokens itself as well as resolve dials itself.

The trick is to combine it with something else that results in gaining tokens (e.g. Raymus Antilles).

Yep. It offers a way to stack command effects on a single ship, at the cost of not having them on the Tantive IV . Raymus Antilles is the obvious combo (reveal dial, gain token, pass token to ally while keeping dial) but Leia Organa is even more supporting (reveal dial, change ally's dial, spend dial for token, pass token to ally) although she leaves her own ship without any command. Veteran Captain could work too, but Bel Iblis wouldn't since all of your ships are maxing out tokens anyway.

Bringing back an old thread, but... what if Tantive IV already has a token when revealing the dial? Can it still pass the 'new' token even though it isn't eligible to gain a second token by itself (since Corvettes have a max of 1 token). Does the answer change if the token it already has is of the same type as the dial being revealed?

"Before you gain a command token, 1 friendly ship at distance 1-5 may gain that token instead."

Before you gain the Token.

The only restriction you have with stacking tokens is When you Gain the Token, if its above your command value in total tokens, or a Repeat token, you get rid of one...

So what tokens you have are irrelevant. You have not gained the Token before you make the decision to have someone else gain it.
