Do you think an Imperial or Mercenary campaign is possible?

By Gecimen, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I was wondering about skirmish balance between factions, and the fact that there are a lot of groups on the Imperial side, and more solo characters on the Rebel side.... Of course I guessed that it will always go that way....

Then I thought, what if they released a campaign that we play as a group of bounty hunters infiltrating both rebel and imperial bases?

Or a sith-led group of imperial operators trying to rescue a key commander? Or maybe even seeking a lost massassi temple?

What do you think? Would it be cool? Is it possible?

I think it'd be possible, and pretty darn cool. Who wouldn't want to be Boba Fett for a session?

I find it more likely to get a campaign where the Imperials are the "heroes" than mercenaries. If something like that happens I expect it'll be a while.

I actually think the opposite. If the 'heroes' were mercenary faction, then they could fight every faction even other mercenaries. Would save FFG from having to replace all those deployment groups with Rebels.

I started working on a set of Imperial Heroes for a custom campaign idea I had, so I think it's doable. Looking at the core campaign's structure and use of threat, I think it would have to be set after Return of the Jedi, with a small team of Imperials doing a series of hit & run raids within the Alliance's territories.

It'd have to be way after RotJ. As even after the second death star's destruction, the Empire out powered the rebel alliance. Just now the Empire lacked serious co-ordination since all the highest ranking officers were infighting to be the new emperor. (till Thrawn showed up.)

I've been picturing a merc-focused expansion ever since I noticed they were the most underdeveloped faction for skirmish. An campaign built around the rivalry between two crime families, where the heroes come from the "bad" one and the "much worse" one gets a whole bunch of new units to play with, would kill two birds with one stone: fleshing out the merc faction for skirmish, and providing a truly different experience for campaign players.

Ooh, and I just had another cool idea: the duplicitous and, well, mercenary nature of the faction's major characters would allow for a very cool new mechanic for allies/villains: either side could put the side mission to recruit Boba Fett, IG-88, etc. into play... and they join whichever side wins .
