3 shuttle list

By The_Brown_Bomber, in X-Wing Squad Lists

heres what im looking at playing in an upcoming store event. Its based on a list that did well last year which ran 3 omicron + Soontir, that list didnt run any upgrades on the shuttles.

Lits#1

Omicron group pilot + tactician + tactician (25)

Omicron group pilot + tactician + tactician (25)

Omicron group pilot + vader (24)

Turr Phennir + veteran instincts + (26)

100pts

  • Tacticians are there to help versus popular lists using PTL like brobots and any list with soontir.
  • im hoping it will be durable enough and pack enough punch to take down a decimator. if uv ever flown a shuttle without engine upgrade then you know just how hard they are to fly - the worst dial in the game by a wide margin imo. getting quality shots on name pilots that are not a large ship is going to take some doing i know. large ships with engine upgrade will be tough to pin down as well.
  • I am thinking of dropping one tactician from each ship and putting engine upgrade on the one that has vader. My reasoning is that it will be able to chase down fast ships and get into range more quickly. Fire Control System in place of a tactician is also a possibility potentially allowing more damage output early on but im thinking that keeping the same ships in arc is going to be rather hard.
  • Not going with autothrusters on Turr is a risk i know, especially in a turret heavy meta. Thats something i might alter after playing the list a few times.

thoughts?

List #2 [Double Shuttles]

Omicron group pilot + tactician + tactician (25)

Omicron group pilot + vader + Engine Upgrade (28)

Backstabber (16)

Turr Phennir + veteran instincts + AT + Hull Upgrade (31)

100pts

I think your opponent will hate you forever, but you should play the first one for the incredulous look on their face.

OGP with autoblaster & Acuracy Corrector x3 for 99 points possibly giving one intelligence agent to help figure out where things might end up. Anything high agility would regret coming into range 1 and any big ships you can just roll the regular 3 attack dice at any range.

for the first list what if you ran gunner and HLC on the vader shuttle making it 32

and howlrunner in the back to make it shoot at 8 with Swarm tactics something like this

hmm, thats interesting. HLC is kindof needed in some matchups. Im not keen to put that many points into a ship that uses vader crew as its a ship i am likely to lose and thats 32pts I'm handing them in a timed match. I do like mangler cannon in the mix, that thing is dangerous at any range.

List #3 [Doom Shuttle with slippery support ships]

Omicron group pilot + vader (24)

Backstabber (16)

Turr Phennir + veteran instincts + Autothrusters (28)

Soontir Fel + Push the Limit + Autothrusters (32)

100pts

ive played this list twice and its solid if a little fragile. Backstabber is great in this list as he can operate in close without being a priority target versus anything not using turrets. Versus turrets he is less good and can be picked off :(

i agree thats a slippery slope with a 32 point gift, i played a match last night on Vassal vs Imperial Kath with Flachette and RC with two tei advanced (with unreleased titles) and thanks to a well placed miss by the shuttle on the first pass and a vader activation killed one of the advanceds with the 'free crit' then proceeded to attack the other advanced and blow it out of the sky (space?) in one salvo with 4 dice all hits no evades and the 'free vader' bringing my shield to 1/5 and leaving kath v 4 and that didnt last long. I ended up killing my own shuttle on a rock, but got two more vaders off on kath before i did so. And thanks to 3 attack dice, there is no 'doughnut of safety' if anything its worse at range one, because crits can happen

ok so i went with list#1 yesterday and got soundly trounced by two different decimator lists. I actually should have won the 2nd game but blundered with two key moves, one with turr putting him on a rock and the other with vader shuttle, bumping him into one of my other shuttles. if i hadnt have done this i would have destroyed his decimator which was on 4 hull and probably been able to hang on for the win or perhaps even take out his last ship, a phantom.

This list as it stands is very hard to play. It has the firepower to compete but i need to execute a perfect gameplan to stand a chance. I am starting to tweek the list, not ready to abandon it just yet. id like to add engine upgrade to one or two shuttles. this will likely mean dropping on of the stressgiving shuttles.

New 2 shuttle list:

Capt. Yorr + mangler cannon + tactician + tactician + engine upgrade (36)

Omicron group pilot + vader + engine upgrade (28)

Soontir + PTL + title + autothrusters + stealth device (35)

99pts

  • Soontir is clearly the better choice over turr and the added defense from AT and stealth is rather needed
  • Yorr helps soontir shed stress and can ease the hurt of rebel captive which is seeing lots of play
  • Engine Upgrades on both shuttles lets them keep pace with faster ships, lets them boost out of trouble when they are damaged or outflanked and allow them to get more shots on the enemy

I wouldn't put an engine upgrade on Yorr. If he's doing his job, he'll be forever burning off other people's stress, so will rarely get actions. Tacticians and cannons give him something to do whilst he does it. I'd rather invest those points into something that doesn't require an action - Shield Upgrade, Fire Control System, Sensor Jammer, something like that.

A shuttle with Vader is a nice classic and should do well. I know there's the 'keep it cheap, it's a kamikaze' argument, but you need to actually get that shot to use vader, so an engine upgrade is a good call, especially since (thanks to Yorr) you can pull a hard turn and then boost to do an 'almost-koiogran' and come about in one turn.

Soontir Fel is Soontir Fel. He has the best (currently) propounded suite of upgrades, and is a superlative dogfighter.

I like the first list. I know you are worried about turrets but if they are focused on turr then the shuttles are free. Fly him away quick if they are chasing then bring the lambdas in and vise versa.

The concern of the second list is getting the double tactican in position to deal stress. I feel others might be able to avoid it to some degree but the again I have yet to fly one built like that. Having backstabber could cause people to loose focus, though, making it easier for you to do it.

How, by chance, do you have four tacticans? Did you buy 4 phantoms or get them in other means? Just curious.

i bought 3 phantoms, borrowed one more tactician for the squad off a friend. ;)

MG, thanx for the feedback. in testing i just found it very hard wout EU. boosting decimators are all the rage right now, Superdash and Fat han its pretty much a staple now. without EU im worried i wont get consistent shots on their big ship, which can be slowed once i hit it with double stress. EU lets me cover a large distance when i need to. i see both shuttles as complementing Soontir. Yes the shuttles are expendable but i want the versatility of choosing to boost out of trouble if im getting flanked as well as the option of being able to give chase versus their large base boosting ship. :) Its more about how i want to play the list tactically :)
