Do you play with both sides?

By Green Knight, in Star Wars: Armada

Quick question:

Is it common to have only the ONE fleet - either rebel or imperial? Or do most people play both?

Also: After reading some AARs it seems that there are a lot of Imp vs Imp and Reb vs Reb fights. Are there no tournaments where you're required to alternate playing both sides?

I collect both fleets. I think most people do.

I wish!

I collect and play both.

It just happens that most of my opponents prefer to play Imperials and I dislike blue on blue so a lot of the time I end up playing Rebel. But I guess this fad will fade. Or even change drastically with wave 2.

Back in the day I played a lot of Star Wars Customizable Card Game (SWCCG)

One of the neat things was that you brought one deck for each side - light and dark - and alternated playing them. There was never any blue on blue.

I guess Armada is different. I was just a little surprised is all.

So people collect both fleets, but play only one side during any given tournament. Got it!

No. I only collect Imperials. I do have the Rebs from the starter set so I can teach my friends, but that's it. I may pick up some more reb ships, mostly for the cards.

In the interests of cost, I decided this go around that I would buy Rebels only (save 1 ISD for my desk)

I collect both because I only play casual with a few people so we need all the models anyway.

I've never understood the Blue on Blue hate. It's just another strategy level. And frankly it fits enough of the stories to make sense. Rebel on rebel involves some pirates. Imp on Imp is warlords battling it out. Besides which... It's a strategy game. Not a storytelling game.

So yes, I play both sides. And I enjoy Blue on Blue.

You heathen!

I kid.

I personally collect all sides. Currently, my area is doing an escalation league and we are upping points after every 2 weeks. So I am playing a week of rebels and a week of Imperials. It's fun and I get to see several ways of playing

I collect both sides but am leaning slightly towards Rebels as my preferred side.

Only Empire for me. Even sold off my Rebel components from the starter.

I collect both sides seeing my friends like to play armada with me but its not within their budget to buy ships.

I do like to crush the rebel scum if that tells you anything.

das phrasing!

I would play both factions, but I detest mirror matches (traumatized by warhammer 40k and the diluge of spess mehrines) and too many people play imperials here (why? Star Destroyers, of course!)

I have two VSDs and fight packs and want to use them at first possible opportunity, but until I find some rebel opponents I'm flying rebels myself. Fortunately, I'm quite fond of Whales and NEbs :)

I collect both and will play both. I lean towards Rebel and right now have been playing them more as I am working on a build.

Also, the tournament format doesn't care what faction you are as long as everything you are playing is legal for that faction, so you will end up with mirror matches regularly. That is why you have black and white tokens with every ship. In a mirror match, one player MUST put numbers of one color on all his ships, and the other player MUST use the unused color on all of his.

I collect all of the ships, because I do most of the supplying for my group's Armada games. I haven't done a mirror match yet, but I don't have a problem with them.

I collect both because I only play casual with a few people so we need all the models anyway.

Same here - just play casual with my son ATM

Plus I like the flexibility and I'm a collector/hoarder at heart anyway!

I collect both, unfortunately I haven't had the chance to actually play the rebels b/c my friends always want to be rebels...but I guess I get to show them the power of the Empire and crush their rebellious dreams

I collect and play both sides. There are quite a few of the people in my area that are loving playing the Empire so I'm trying to get to the point where I can master the finesse needed for Rebel victories... It's a hard climb.

We do have a couple of people in my area that are collecting one side or the other. Mostly I think it's a matter of taste or financial choices

Since I've been the propagandist honest reporter for the Imperial cause on HNN (see sig.), I've basically been locked in to playing the Empire. My cohorts would give me too much grief if I played rebels.

I have the core set rebels for loaners and solo matches for concept testing. I haven't seen any rebel expansion pack-only cards that make me want to shell out for a rebel ship. I trust if there are any that are worthwhile, they'll put them in an Imperial expansion somewhere down the line.

I currently only collect Imperials. This will likely change in Wave 2, the MC30 looks fun. I currently only enjoy the AF2 and the Salvation Neb B, which isn't enough to really make a fleet out of.

The group that I play in has six players right now, three of them have both, three only one fleet.

It's nice to see so many of us swing both ways.

My group only has the ships I own, so I collect and play both fleets.

I like to collect and play both factions - when playing with my brother, I am currently the only one owning any ships, but still enjoy the games too much. He also provides countless other games without asking me to contribute anything else but spare time, so it all stays fair.

Playing both factions lets you experience the very unique ways rebs/imps may be played - theres just so much variety, and even being a loyal imperial at heart, I enjoy the rebell playstyle every other gaming day.
