Hello all. The following brief (well briefer than usual) overview is match 1 of 3 in my first tournament, which I played last weekend. There were 6 players, 4 Imperial and 2 Rebel. I was working on a more detailed AAR earlier this week, but due to a webpage crash I lost over an hour and a half of write-up. Remind me never to write a huge block of text in a web browser again…It had been a few more days since I’ve had time to restart and I’ve forgotten some of the finer details. Also I apologize for the lack of pictures, I only managed to snag one photo before my phone died on me.
Note: All directions will be from my perspective.
My List: Rebels
Assault Frigate Mark IIA (81) Nicknamed “Blunderer”
- Electronic Countermeasures (7)
- Intel Officer (7)
- XI7 Turbolasers (6)
Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57)
- General Dodonna (20)
CR90 Corvette B (39)
- Dodonna’s Pride (6)
CR90 Corvette B (39)
Squadrons:
X-wing (13)
Luke (20)
Total: 295
Objectives: Fleet Ambush, Advanced Gunnery, Intel Sweep
My goal with this fleet was to have 4 ships to mitigate my disadvantage if I didn’t get initiative. My two squadrons were meant to hold off the enemy until my other ships sped out of range, and maybe Luke would get some shots off on a capital. I was expecting a large number of Imperial players, and definitely Gladiators. I tried to equip my assault frigate to punch through a single side of a Vic or Glad and start doing crits as well as a flanking Dodonna’s Pride. I always deployed my CR90s at speed 4, my Neb-B at speed 2 and Blunderer at speed 3.
My Opponent’s List: Rebels
Asssault Frigate Mark IIA (81)
- Mon Mothma (30)
- Electronic Countermeaures (7)
- Raymus Antillies (7)
CR90 Corvette B (39)
- Dodonna’s Pride (6)
- Veteran Captain (3)
CR90 Corvette A (44)
- Jaina’s Light (2)
Squadrons:
6x X-wing (78)
Total: 297
Objectives: Intel Sweep, Opening Salvo, Hyperspace Assault (I think)
Setup: I chose to take initiative and then chose Opening Salvo as the objective, since I had one more ship I figured I would get the advantage. The obstacles were mainly placed to the side, except for one debris field in the middle of the board. Out fleets were fairly lined up opposite each other.
Turn 1:
I moved forward with a CR90s and Neb-b on my left, Blunderer and my stock corvette moved right. My opponent moved further to the left with his corvettes, and turned to the right with his Mk 2 to avoid the debris field. He got a frontal shot off at my Dodonna’s Pride with his MK2 as well, since I idiotically moved straight forward and just got into long range. His attack hit a few shields since I was able to evade his hit/crit on the Opening Salvo dice he added. Our fighters slowly moved up and I tried to hide my two behind my assault frigate.
Turn 2:
During this turn I lost my Dodona’s Pride from two shots from his Assault Frigate (front and side), but not before I had used my opening salvo, taking most shields and doing one hull damage to his Dodonna’s Pride. He used a squadron command with his MK2 and was just able to get in range of my squadrons and do 4 damage to Luke. I then tried to use my Neb-B to finish off his Dodonna’s Pride before it activated, since I had 5 red dice with opening salvo to throw at him. I didn’t roll horribly, but with his evade and redirect I was only able to deal 2 more damage. I was then had to move and this left my side facing both his corvettes. I used my other corvette and Blunderer to open up on his MK 2, getting rid of most of its shields. His two corvettes with opening salvo were able to rip into my Neb-B, leaving it nearly dead. I was able to kill one of his x-wings and he finished off Luke.

Turn 3:
I used Blunderer to fire a point blank volley into his Mk 2’s nose and finished it off while using my rear to finish off my opponent’s Dodonna’s Pride. He responded by using Jaina’s Light to finish off my Neb-B. A few of his x-wings who had been left back had been taking shots at my stock CR90 and this round they managed to do a few damage cards. My opponent forgot I had one x-wing left at this point and since we weren’t engaged I was able to retreat with my remaining squadron.
Turn 4-6:
I had the slight edge in points and since Opening Salvo gives half points for a ship with at least a single damage card I decided to run away with Blunderer rather than risk a ram on the final turn. So at this point the game was essentially over. There were a few more long range shots fired, but nothing of importance.
Summary:
This was my first mirror match and our lists were very similar as well. I underestimated the power of opening salvo and it cost me my Neb-B. However, other than that and my first turn mistake with moving to far straight ahead I think I played quite well. My corvettes were maneuvered well to get in their medium range, which I have struggled with in the past. Overall a good game and I squeaked out a 6-5 MOV which tied me for first in the overall tournament standing after round 1. Keep tuned in for parts 2 and 3!
