New player, first tournament list. Feedback???

By Fallenspirit87, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hey people! I have just invested heavily in armada after playing a lot of xwing. Loving armada even more than xwing and have signed myself up in a local tournament and was just after some thoughts and ideas on my first list.

Flagship - victory 2 star destroyer

Upgrades - admiral screed, xx9, gunnery team

Fleet ship - gladiator 1

Upgrades - engine techs, demolisher, expanded launchers

Squadrons -

Soontir fel

2 x tie advanced

Mauler Mithel

Tie fighter

Tie interceptor

286 total gives me a 14 point ini bid. Thoughts and feedback would be appreciated, also what objectives would people recommend?

I personally think gunnery team is never worth it (at least until akbar) and xx9s are situational at best

convention holds that the VSD with a GSD partner be kited out for squadron support (flight controllers)

ACM are also far more reliable and far cheaper on skreed enabled demolishers

Question: How does stuff like ACM and Ion Cannon Batteries activate? Is it upon rolling the Blue/Black crit as an automatic effect, or do you have to spend a black/blue die in order for it to take effect? The Rules Ref and FAQ do not specify.

And 14 points is a lot. You probably should add something, like flight controllers or something along those lines. It'll still give you a good ini bid, but you wont be so underpowered that you'll miss out on some opportunities to do damage.

the ":" denotes a condition, which really trips me up personally since "X:" denoted a cost in MTG

page 5 of the quick reference has "crit: effects are critical effects that can be resolved at the start of the "Resolve Damage Step of an attack"

so if you roll a , you can activate that effect

the base rules provide the standard critical effect which is "critical: if the defender is dealt at least one damage crd by this attack, deal the first damage card faceup"

since you can only resolve one crit effect, you'd essentially replace that with ACM. So, you don't spend dice or deal a face-up damage card, you just deal damage to adjacent hull zones if you roll a crit (or "roll" ala skreed ;) )

stuff with "command:" can be resolved once while the ship is resolving the matching command (either dial or token) which is why you see a lot of Wulf with demolishers (constantly recycles the nav token to continuously enable engine techs)

How important is winning the bid to you? Because, fourteen points is a lot to leave on the table to win the bid, unless you're strategy involves needing to win the bid. So, since you don't have any Objectives listed, and your Gald has the Demolosher title, I'm just wondering why winning the bid is so big to you?

Sweet. So basically, you just choose to use the ACM effect versus dealing a face up damage card? and I have a hard time justifying engine techs right now. Do you normally use them on your GSD's?

updated list based on feedback is as follows

objectives -

advanced gunnery

intel sweep

hyperspace assault

flagship - Victory II

upgrades - admiral screed, flight controllers, expanded hanger bay, intel officer.

fleet ship - gladiator I

Upgrades - Assualt Concussion Missiles, Demolisher, Engine Techs

Squadrons

soontir fel

mauler mithel

tie interceptor

2 x tie advanced

2 x tie fighters

6 point initative bid

still not sure on the ACM over expanded launchers, the gladiator is set up to get in close quick and deliver a nasty black pay load. i like ACM but i like rolling lots of dice.

Best Argument I have for your concerns of ACM vs EL is that your glads will be plenty happy saddling up next to another ship and unloading with that sexy all-black-broadside. This enhances flexibility vs shoe-horning you into front-arc shots. The best argument, to me, for EL is taking insidius title and maybe gunnery team to flank and hit hard.

The list looks solid though.

Intel sweep favors the faster, more numerous Rebs. Just saying.

rebs or gladiators ;)

He only has one Gladiator. ALL the rebel ships are fast.

one question, with intel sweep, when a ship collects a marker, but is then destroyed, do they keep the marker or is it removed from play??

Yes, but only the Objective ship can gather the Objectives, unless I'm misremembering. So a fleet of five CR90s and a VSD GSD fleet have pretty much the same speed for the Objective.

it is indeed only 1 objective ship per player

you keep any tokens you collect, but if your ship dies you can't collect anything. Tokens do not add to your score , the player with the most tokens gets 75 points. It's all or nothing.

being 2nd player also lets you place the majority of the objective tokens (close to your side) meaning you'll always know where the last crucial token is and can have your VSD parked and waiting on it

I still would not go for Intel sweep, but I favor blasting all the enemy to smithereens over points, so always try to get missions that increase firepower or a chance to spring something. Hyperspace Assault so far is my favorite, followed by Advanced Gunnery. Minefields completes my choices, as it's unlikely to be chosen and forces a choice between the other two.
