Deflecting Blast From Laser Cannons

By Icosiel, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Ah yeah...11 base damage could nicely damage a speeder. And I would pretty much just clone the 74-Z if I were making a STAP.

I wonder, how would autofire work with Improved Reflect? Obviously you can Reflect any and all hits from an autofire weapon, so theoretically, with enough Threat or Despairs, you could redirect two (or more) hits from an autofire weapon, yes? So for example, Qui-Gon's already got his dukes up, the STAP rolls a double Despair on its ambush, and it goes boom.

'Course, such a thing could be a much more narrative construct as well...GM throws something at the players, Qui-Gon's like "I got this!", makes a Lightsaber check, rolls a Triumph.

Shouldn't this be in the Force and Destiny forum?

Arguably, yeah. But the community seems less active there and I like talking to people about things.

Yea, because it seems no one starts topics like this.

Sounds like a Yogisum. "I didn't post there because there is no activity there"

Fair. But I'd rather post here, even if it doesn't make any sense. Seems silly to me to jump back and forth between the forums when at my table we fuse all three games into one.

It's a recurrent discussion here. My personal suggestion would be something like the following:

Star Wars Role-Playing (no threads in this, it just contains sub-forums)

-->Edge of the Empire

-->Age of Rebellion

-->Force and Destiny

-->Star Wars Universe

The last one is obviously a great big vague glob of topics but honestly, that's not necessarily a bad thing. You need a good volume of traffic to sustain a forum and the more specific you get, the more the specialist forums become ghost towns that people don't post in for exactly the reasons you just gave! In the above, I have also done away with Beginner and Games Master forums. I don't have time to scan five or six different forums just to see what's new!

Oh, it just came in my mind, that the red sith sabers are different from the jedi sabers. In the sith book they say also that the red ones are stronger... but well it is the sith book, would be strange if they dont. But maybe they ARE stronger, at least in terms of reflection

Would spending a destiny point to convert the attack to personal scale damage be too out of line? I wouldn't let it be done in ship combat, but it could work.

This reminds me of the whole MDC/SDC issue from palladium. Where things seem good on paper, mechanically but don't make sense cinematically. CthulhuTech had three damage scales: personal, vehicle, and hybrid. Hybrid counted as the former types when inflicting damage in the corresponding to the targets scale. Perhaps that could be applied here? All but the turbo lasers could be hybrid damage.

Definitely too strong for even a couple Destiny Point flips. But a Signature Ability...

Tbh, the entire thing reeks of dragon ballzness. Jedi and sith should be incredible in ways which are palisble. Heck, palpatine and yoga wasn't even known to wield lightsabers until prequel, so having palpatine of all people smacking bolts back sounds bloody stupid.

Sith and Jedi should be known for the powers of the mind, since deflecting blaster bolts is just one step away from turning back a turbo las or or force storming an entire planet.

More likely they're no different from the natural crystals that the Jedi use.

The Sith are all about self-importance, so they're going to feel their methods are "superior" to those used by the Jedi. Creating a synethic crystal is just another instance of this, as it's a demonstration of the Sith's superior ways in that they created the crystal rather than scavenging in a cave for one like the Jedi do.
