Question: Corran Horn + R3-A2

By roboben1, in X-Wing

I have a question if you don't mind helping me work out the answer.

Ship + upgrade:

Corran Horn

At the start of the End phase, you may perform 1 attack. You may not attack next round.

+ R3-A2

When you declare the target of your attack, if the defender is inside your firing arc, you may receive 1 stress token to cause the defender to receive 1 stress token.

After I've used Corran's ability can I used the R3-A2's ability in the round where I cannot attack.

I suspect I can't but this would stop the usefulness of rebel captive and other relate cards as well.

I would like to do is;

R3-A2 then shoot, at the end of the turn R3-A2 and shoot again, next round Declare target R3-A2 + NOT shoot.

"You may not attack next round." does it mean ignore the 'combat phase'? Or don't roll attack dice?

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Ben

Corran does not attack next round. There is no attack. Corran never activates during the combat phase. You do not resolve the combat sequence. You never reach step 1 declare target. There is no target.

In order to use R3-A2 you need to perform an attack. Corran does not attack.

As a small extra example, the crit Blinded Pilot says "next time you attack, do not roll any attack dice" which would be the only condition where you'd get to attack for purposes of abilities, but not roll any dice. You could use R3-A2 on such an attack, or gunner after it fails, or take a stress from rebel captive, etc.

Nope! However, you can use him again in the double tap. That's fun indeed!

Thanks all, I thought as much.
