"Mando Mahem" - Critique My List for My First Tourney (Pirate Rules)

By Danomight, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Ok so there are some pretty unique rules for this tournament (the first I'm attending since getting interested in the game).

1: no unique pilots
2: no unique upgrade cards
3: no faction restrictions
4: no more than 1 of any ship type

Based on these rules, I came up with:

Mando Merc (43)

- K4

- Engine Upgrade

- Veteran Instincts

Syndicate Thug (21)

- Autoblaster Turret

- BTL Title

- Unhinged Astro

Blue Squadron (24)

- FCS

Academy Pilot (12)

Total: 100

My plan is to fly right at the enemy with the Blue, Thug, and Tie while my Firespray skirts the edge of the action looking for high priority targets (high PS, Phantoms, etc). Any thoughts on how I can improve this list? I considered dropping FCS for Blaster Turret on the Thug to give it some more reach but opted against it since I can't afford R4 Agro to go with it. Also Unhinged should help me get the BT in range.

I'd seriously just run BBBB and a Tie Fighter

No duplicate ships, possibly for this reason.

You could run wild space fringer + outer rim smuggler + patrol leader though just to run annoying turrets though.

Oh, didn't see that. I think your list is pretty solid.

You could go all arc-dodgey with:

Saber + AT + PTL = 26

Black Sun Vigo + AT = 29

Green Sqd. + AT + PTL + Refit + Test Pilot + Calculation= 23

Blue Sqd. = 22

Thanks for the input guys!

I drew a first round bye and then went 1-2. I definitely could have done better if I had playtested in advance. My first game I started my Firespray too far away from my other ships allowing them to get gobbled up before I could join forces. My second game I tried to get cute with my firespray and flew it off the board. Everything came together for me in my third game with my Mando Merc locking down the middle of the board and absolutely crapping damage with the K4. I won that game 100-21 - losing only my Ywing. All told not bad for my first tourney. Royal Guard Interceptors and Firesprays were very popular and the event was won by a Firespray / Royal Guard / Space Fringer.
