Haunt - hadn't noticed that before

By Dam the Man, in Talisman Rules Questions

Okay, so Gladiator romped to another win, despite getting Toaded in the Dungeon, attacking the Lord of Darkness with a "measly" Str 25 in battle, getting about +8 from Followers alone sorpresa.gif .

Anyway, early on in the game, he drew the Haunt and got a stand-off. Looking at the card, I noticed the wording: "If you do not defeat the Haunt...". You don't have to be defeated by the Haunt, even a stand-off is enough, correct?

Of course, the Gladiator didn't much care about a Haunt, his ability got him through until he landed in the Chapel (had Druid Staff).

True, but the rules you only need to read once carefully, Haunt doesn't come up in every game. Even if it does, Craft 2 usually means easy win.

If it was a stand off... you din`t beat it, but you didn`t loos a life, or whatever the outcome is, nothing happens, your turn ends...... At least that how I play the game.

Dam was pointing out that this card was subtler than most people had expected. You have to win the psychic combat against the Haunt; if you lose or have a stand-off, the Haunt attaches to you and gives the penalty
