Winter Stark Deck - Aggro/control concept

By Guest, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

Here it is. Intuitive building, not a "genius/deck", but I like the concept.

Remember that I've not tested it, yet, 'cause for a couple of troubles I'm still waiting for the last copies of CP's.

But I think I got the balances (I know those Northern Badasses ;-)), even if in a theorical point of view ;-)

Small COMMENTS in the end...

Here's the list.

Suggestions are welcome, as usual.

Note: I usually play a lot Stark decks...till now I played a Bear Island deck, but this is going to be a "tournament" deck (maybe) and I can find too many stark decks to make the island work.

After that, I'm tired of it, so...Time to change...Winter is coming!

Cheap chars with different possibilities to be aggressive and insidious...Small avg costs, different weird effects on the table, a couple of "ultimate" events and control oriented attachments. WInter agenda and a bunch of disturbing Plots to keep game advantage.

What do you think? Do you see anything "competitive" here?

Bye ;-)

Just some thoughts from someone who isn't a deck building wiz:

I think shadows Arya in a Winter Stark deck is tremendous. I'd take out CoC (who can't be in play at the same time as Arya) for a second copy of Arya. The earlier you can get shadows Arya in play to act as a recyclable claim soaker, the better. And given her ability, she's not going to end up in your dead pile leaving you with an unplayable unique. If you draw into your second Arya, that's ok, because it can be the card you leave in Shadows to power up Catelyn and Storm Dancer.

I generally try to find space for the Bolton Refugees in my Stark decks. They are free and give you Intrigue icons. Also, with Icy Catapult in your deck, you can put IC on the Refugee and deliberately allow it to leave play to trigger IC --I've found that sometimes opponents won't initiate a Mil challenge against me while I have IC attached to a weenie, so this trick lets me go after one of their strong characters quickly. Plus with the berzerkers, it might be good to have a free character to kill if Arya isn't yet in play.

Why do you have the one Herald? I always think of them as 3x or none, since they seem like a card you want to draw early.

If you own 3x of To Be a Wolf, I'd add the third copy. That card is too awesome not to use if you have it, plus with cancels making a comeback, it's a nice card in that the "stand" portion of it is technically a cost, so even it gets cancelled, you still get to stand a character.

I haven't played with Bran in my deck. Which plots are you hoping to "combo" up with him or is it you want him just in case you're trying to cycle through your plots quicker to get back a plot to resuse?

At first, thanks a lot: a found ALL of your suggestions very helpful, believe me.

I will take care of your advices and, especially for Arya and Bolton refugee (I put them initially...But the deck is still IN MY MIND, cause I don't have all the cards I need...They're coming ;-))...

For IC: I usually put it on Midnight Sentry when I start with great advantage (in my Stark deck, not this one).

Big set up the MS + IC and UB make somethign terrible (yes you LOSE one draw, but To be a lion and Wolf Herald help a bit).

BUt Your POINTS ARE PERFECT, and when I'll get all the cards, I'll try them all.

About TO BE A WOLF, I put in 2 just because is the number of them I have...But I'm going to order the third... ;-)

WOLF HERALD is more something like "One more tutor". It's just something like "one more chance to get a stuff I need". I don't really need it, maybe, but I like the single copy ;-)

In a CONSISTANCY point of view, you're ABSOLUTELY RIGHT...It's something I can try without troubles, anyway...

About Bran...I made to myself the SAME QUESTION you did. The answer was "It still is a good way to cycle plots". There's nothing like a combo, but if the game gets longer than I can handle or I need some stuff like a new Wildfire, 2 Claim plots or Raven plot, it's a chance to get them back quickly. ;-)

Thanks for YOUR TIME ;-)
