Some basic questions from a newer

By PauloC, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Hi,

I am quite new to this fantastic games (and old in X Wing). I have some basic questions and please ask for your help ....

1- When you choose a Navigate command and decide to reduce your speed for ex. from 2 to 1. After the activation/round ends, should this speed return to 2 or be mantainedin 1 until a new Navigate command can chamge it? Is the Navigate command effect temporary for the round or permanent until the speed is changed again?

2-The ship's card shows 1 Blue die against Squadrons. When I attack a squadron from 1 hull zone's ship, all the squadrons in range are targeted (e.g. I have 3 squadron's bases in the range of the hull attack that means I roll 3 times, once for each squadron's base), or only 1 squadron's base is attacked from that hull zone?

3-If I have more than 1 critical result in the die going through the ship's shield (0), shoud I deal ever and only 1 face up damaged card, or 1 face up damaged card for EACH critical obtained that was not stopped by the ship's shield.

Sorry if these are so basic questions and thanks for your support !

1) Your speed will remain 1 until you resolve a different navigate command. Its a permanent thing. (Sidenote : the speed reduction from ship overlaps is temporary and does not actually change your speed)

2) You will roll your anti squadron dice for each squadron you can target in that zone. In your example you will roll 1 blue die 3 separate times. Each squadron is attacked separately, which is relevant for things like dominator, concentrate fire etc.

3) 1 and only 1 face up damage card. Make sure its the first card. Even if the dice have 6 crits, and they all get through to the hull, only 1 will be faceup. The only way I can think of to modify that is the XX-9 turbolasers, which has allows you to deal the first 2 face-up.

No worries about basic questions, that's what we're here for!

It's worth noting that the deal the first damage card face up is the default crit effect. If you choose to trigger a different crit effect such as one from an upgrade card like overload pulse you then don't deal and cards face up if the attack deals damage to the hull.

It is also worth noting that the amount of damage and the crit effect are separate things. It isn't like in x-wing where a crit icon equals a face up card. Everyone does whatever modifications they are allowed, you total up the icons and get a numeric value for how much damage you do, then if there is at least 1 crit icon you may resolve a single critical effect, which might be that one of the damage cards the ship gets is face up or might be something else.

So in essence crits are more like surges in Imperial Assault than criticals in X-Wing?

I haven't even bought Armada yet, but also have a question when reading over the learn to play doc.

"When the defender spends a readied defense token, he flips it over to its exhausted side. When he spends an exhausted defense token, he discards the token, returning it to the supply."

Is that saying that you can use an exhausted defense token but it will result in you permanently loosing that token afterward?

Yes.
