Odd Ball Scum Idea

By Uncanny Penguin, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Alrighty so I had this idea to make a starviper the hardest thing to kill in a list. I would like opinions on how to make it better and expose major flaws as you guys find them. Thanks for checking it out!

Xizor: 39 pts

virago

autothrusters

sensor jammer

inertial dampeners

Serissu: 25 pts

squad leader

hull upgrade

Palob: 36 pts

body guard

blaster turret

recon specialist

moldy crow

hull upgrade

inertial dampeners

general Idea is that Xizor will have 4 green dice with at least a focus and autothrusters with a reroll and turning one attack die into a focus that can't be modified again.

In general, it seems like it may struggle offensively, but since the point of the list was survivability, let's ignore that for now.

I've always wanted to try the combo of a Sensor Jammer/Palob list. You're essentially auto-canceling a hit every round, which is pretty powerful.

In terms of weaknesses...probably Palob. He's an awesome ship, but would be my first target. Given that you need to stay within R1 to use a lot of your abilities, it doesn't seem too difficult to outmaneuver Serissu's and Xizor's arc and get shots on Palob. I would consider dropping the inertial dampeners especially on Palob...he's gonna be short on focus tokens as it is (Bodyguard, Blaster Turret, AND offense/defense modification) so stressing him out will be crippling.

Maybe see if you can squeeze a Hot Shot onto Xizor...that way, at least he can help out Palob if enemies outmaneuver his arc. Speaking of which, again, having to stay within Range 1 of your homies really limits your ability to maneuver. Serissu might be able to keep up with Xizor, but definitely not Palob. I would drop Bodyguard to either free up points for the Hot Shot with a different 1pt EPT, or switch to a different EPT altogether. It'll also help with Palob's focus budget. If you can find a way to fit Opportunist on him, it is a good way to ensure a powerful 4-die turret attack, but it usually pairs better with K4 security droid than RecSpec.

Give the list a try and see how it goes...I really doubt you'll ever use those Dampeners...everything else, give it a try!

so opportunist only works if the target is in your firing arc and your opponent doesn't have arc on you. bodyguard was fitted in to give the starviper an extra agi die, but i can see how palob is the weak link in the list. Palob was there just to have the EPT and a lot of health for Xizor to shunt damage to

No, Opportunist works like this:

Condition: Your Opponent has no focus or evade tokens (since Palob stole it)

Effect: Take a stress token to roll an additional attack die. That's how Palob gets his Blaster Turret to roll 4 dice.

Opportunist has always been cool, but hard to use because it's so expensive and also conditional. Palob nearly guarantees that Opportunist will be able to trigger...the only way around it is to have multiple tokens on your ship.

And I guess I shouldn't say Palob is....weak....just the obvious target in this instance. Because of his token shenanigans and his turret, he might actually be more dangerous than Xizor. if I was your opponent, I would go after him first. He might get a small defensive boost from Serrisu, but if Palob goes down: no more bodyguard, 1 less ship to shunt damage to, no token stealing, sensor jammer becomes less effective, no turret, etc. You then have a handful of mildly effective defensive upgrades and no offensive boosts.

wow my bad brain fart, was thinking of outmanuver. my bad. oppertunist would be a nice choice
