My politico is now jealous of the Diplomat's Sig Abilities!

While I have to admit that Unmatched Expertise is really sweet, the Diplomatic Solution sounds pretty **** epic!

Mind you, the book is stuck on the same boat that the F&D set is on, 7 weeks in limbo now. And the waiting continues. . . . .

Meh, I my politco has all the skills as Career skills and the ability fully loaded up (except the one where I can do it an uncareer skill). I mean sure you can stop a fight and then talk about it but it kinda sounds like they are just going to make you be able to change it from a standard combat to a social combat. I mean it has uses but it still doesn't beat the smuggler's sig ability Unmatched Fortune.

"If your character uses Unmatched Insight, you can determine someone’s history, motives, and weaknesses with a glance and some swift reasoning. Then, you can use that information to predict and manipulate that person’s decisions. "

Man, who knew that Thrawn was a Diplomat?

"The Analyst is extremely skilled at processing data, interpreting information, and leveraging this knowledge to create brilliant solutions and plans to win hearts, minds, and even battles."

Man, who knew that Thrawn was a Diplomat?

To be fair, Thrawn wasn't able to do that sort of thing with "just a glance."

It's forgotten by a lot of folks (including EU authors), but Thrawn had to actively study a species' art in order to suss out their psychological failings. And he even admitted to Palleon that there were times when his knowledge didn't work to his advantage and had to resort to brute-force methods to win a battle.

Really, this ability is more of a "Sherlock Scan" in that you're able to pick apart a person based on a number of visual cues in short order. There was an episode of NCIS where Abby was able to do this to a woman at a Forensic Science convention, and an episode of Criminal Minds where Aaron Hotchner did an on-the-spot profile of a defense attorney that was very accurate (mostly as a rebuttal to the attorney trying to claim that profiling was bunk). You're ultimately profiling the target, just that with this signature ability you're able to do it with little to no preparation or research, something that actual profiling work takes a whole lot of.

We don't really know anything about what Thrawn did before joining the Chiss military. Its possible that he enlisted as soon as he came of age but its also possible that he had another career before that. Perhaps he was a diplomat at some point and some incident occurred which made him decide to join the military I don't think we even know how old he was when he died do we?

Well, going by the EU/Legends (which is where Thrawn sits anyway), he was a professional military man, being a part of the Chiss defensive fleet. Chiss diplomacy seems to be more along the lines of "you leave us alone, we'll leave you alone," so pretty sure he's not a Diplomat.

Probably some flavor of Commander, more than likely a spec that we've not been introduced to yet until such time as FFG decides to work on a Commander-centric splat book.
