Best EPT on Corran Horn

By Shirako, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have 4 points for an EPT to take on a FCS, Shield Upgrade, and R2-D2 Corran. I'm debating between Expose, Predator, Marksmanship, and PTL

Expose boosts my double tap firepower to insane levels, and with a TL I still get some rerolls, however it lowers my defense with no defensive action and reduced agility.

Predator is an action less reroll, but is it worth it with a FCS on board?

Marksmanship lasts for my double tap, gives me a crit to burn down big ships, and doesn't reduce my agility

PtL is useless against control, stresses me for even more predictable movements, however a barrel roll and a focus could be clutch in the end game

Thoughts?

I commonly use ptl with advanced sensors to turtle up then do a green to clear stress & regen a shield.

Also handy to barrel roll prior to your move.

In your current setup I commonly see him with vi although oppurtunist could be interesting as well.

Remember the thing about PtL is that you don't 'have' to use it all the time, especially if you're about to get stress in return. It pays off big though, because it allows you to make use of the E-wing's extensive action bar. With your setup you want Corran to get to the end game. What better way to do it than with a focus AND evade? For me, the choice is clear: PtL: It gives you options. (that's almost a cool slogan, like Red Bull: it gives you wings)

in the turret and big ship meta, PTL wins by default

the stacked evade + focus + r2-d2 guarantees you will win (eventually) any 1 on 1 engagement against all but the luckiest of foes. Considering that's half a 2-ship build, it's not a bad investment.

It's actually a 4 ship build :) the rest blocks and sets up for Corran to double tap some poor fellow with no action. But I like how this discussion is going, I'll have to give PTL another try this weekend, last chance to play on a table before regionals :D

Why is Corran in your list? What's his job?

If his job is to hit and run high PS targets, VI+FCS+R2D2+EU seems like the way to go.

If he's there to be annoying as hell to kill, PTL+Advanced Sensors+R2D2 (EU if you've got points to spare)

If he's there to do a ton of damage every other turn, Marksmanship+FCS+R2D2.

Predator could be cool with Advanced Sensors resulting in a Corran that can K-Turn like a boss and that will be really hard to block while.

I don't like Corran at all with Expose. It makes him a Phantom with a shield upgrade that can't decloak and gets no actions.

Writing that last sentence made me go hit the builder. I built out Echo to be a psuedo-Expose-Corran and came in at 42 points vs. 41 for Corran with Expose+FCS. Corran still has his Modification and Astromech slot open but they end up with the same stats when Echo is Decloaked and Corran has Expose running. Echo gets Gunner that can be used every round if the first shot misses compared to Corran being able to double-tap every other round.

"Echo" (30)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Gunner (5)
Shield Upgrade (4)
Total: 42

Corran Horn (35)
Expose (4)
Fire-Control System (2)
Total: 41

Corran is the muscle behind 3 Proto A-Wings with Refit and Autothrusters. The A-Wings set up shots for Corran by denying actions and screening for Corran on turns when he can't shoot. The As are also excellent at dogpiling Falcons and Decis with 3 agility and Autothrusters

I would go for Push. It gives you the most versatility and with Focus/Evade plus that blasted droid, he's silly hard to kill.

For your specific build, I'd make Corran like this:

PTL, R2D2, Adv. Sensors, Engine Upgrade

Being able to boost and/or barrel roll prior to revealing your dial is crazy good. You can PTL, then perform a green maneuver to remove the stress AND gain a shield. But you will lose some firepower by not having FCS, and his double taps become "riskier" too. But seeing as Corran will be the main target, he'll need to be as defensive as possible.

PTL it lets you turtle, it helps you arc dodge it up's your damage it's really versatile and kinda key imho.

I will have to play test him tonight on Vassal with Adv. Sensors instead of FCS. I am hesitant to replace FCS as he is my primary damage dealer, but everything is worth a shot!

Personally I love flying Corran + R2D2 + PtL + FCS. Focus & Evade. Use your target lock ONLY on your first attack. Save the Focus for super "turtle" defense, then if you still have it, spend F+TL on the SECOND attack. Greens + R2D2 regen shields and you can still turtle. Took down a full health Fat Chewie this way.
