Petition for the Final Spat Book

By PhilOfCalth, in Only War

According to the news feed the last product for Only War was released 9 May 2014. That's over a year ago now. In the mean time I've chewed my nails down to the second knuckle waiting for the last splat book.

Being a pro-active sort of person, and not being one to whinge and complain I've decided it would be good to show FFGs who many people would love to see this book and what we're looking forward to seeing in it. I'm aware that Star-Wars is taking up a lot of man hours at the moment with all the movie hype. God knows I've gotten a bit distracted by the X-Wing miniatures game. Which is saying something considering I count myself as a pure role-player these days. However, I hope if we get enough posters on a thread like the devs can see that there's a market for this book and at least put it in the plan.

I'd rather this thread didn't get distracted by people giving out about things in other peoples lists, issues with other products, etc. Let's try to keep to topic.

So here's my statement:

I'd love to see the last splat book written and I'd love to see the following in it

1 Advanced specialities for the Commissar

- Commissar Commander, Commissar Storm Trooper like (lead by example) guy, Requisition/Logistics expert

2 Advanced specialities for the Stormtrooper

- Basically everything a guardsman can do but no comrades

3 Advanced specialities for the psyker

- The ability to focus on a single discipline for huge powers that cost the player something (corruption, insanity, wounds, memory, etc)

4 The ability to make all Stormtrooper regiment

- Everyone gets lots of skills stats boosts, etc and all the cool kit, but no-one gets comrades. Also needs to be from a schola homeworld.

5 All the vehicles gear and units GW has released for the Imperial Guard

6 Introduction of aeronoutica (flyers) and their rules in play

7 Introduction of fleet actions and how they might affect the battle field

8 Rules for Titan crews and Imperial Knight crews in the same way as regiments can be set up

9 Rules for a small selection of Imperial Knights an Titans

I'm aware some of this is very hopeful, and other parts could be argued don't belong in Only War, but I can always ask.

I second the motion. While there aren't as many posters on this board, Only War is very much alive and is something that is worth continuing. There are still elements of the game that can be expanded or fleshed out.

As for additional points, maybe some new rules for characters with high experience, or expanded rules on playing as officers.

Also fingers crossed for a "Chaos Undivided" book for Black Crusade. I don't think that's going to happen though.

So yes, hopefully they'll still release something for Only War.

Only War and Black Crusade is my 2 favorite setting in Warhammer 40k. I would like a Lost and The Damned supplement and something for Chaos tainted Ogryn's.

I honestly have probably about 20 pages worth of new unit profiles like the Turox, Vendetta gunship, Hydra Flaktank, ect. All of my players are 40k tabletop players so they tend to prefer to have stats and rules for everything. They also care greatly about balance, so for the most part I base them off of the actual tabletop stats. I can post it up in a thread if people would like.

I do agree there is plenty of space to grow though. A supplement for Inqusition forces, Blood Pact, Tempestus regiments, even knights. All of it can still fit within a guardsman reach, although titians might be a bit overkill.

I think a navy expansion would be awesome.

If you post up those rules I would definatly use them.

Of course it's always nicer to get official rules... FFGs... Please... *prays to the emperor*

Hydra flak tank is in one of the Only War (Shield of Humanity) books, Taurox is also included but in the new Dark Heresy (enemies with in or the adventure splatbook) Line...As For Titans se Deathwatch: Rites of Battle (Scout Titan)

So, like every other RPG line that FFG has suddenly abandoned, we get not word, not a sound. I should have learned my lesson with Dragonstar.

What do your contacts say Baron?

TBH, I've found "unofficial" supplements often to be better balanced and to a higher standard than official ones, at least those subject to peer review. The ones where the authors just ignore criticism are generally subpar.

The t aurox isn't in the in Enemy Within so I guess it's in the adventure. Really though it would work well in the supplement that covers stormtroopers, alongside the Taurox -prime

The warhound titan is a decent start but proper rules for it's like and a few more examples would be awesome!

I'll have it up by tonight, I was trying to make it all pretty so it looks like it could fit right into the campaign book. :S

Hi to all,im a Big fan for all Wh 40 series book,my prefered it's Rogue trader, but i use all of them.My players starts usualy with dark heresy pg to rise with experience to rogue trader with the right background. For completing my crusades i really need the vehicles from only war, from heavy tanks like the macharius or the imperial aereonautica like lightning, thunderbolt, marauder and similary.I liked the first book no surrender, but it's a trilogy or a stand alone?I think was time for fantasy flight to pick the idea to write a book like supplement for vehicles .I really hope in this.

I'm sorry my firend. That was not intended as an attempt to hurry you up. It was in response to Athanatosz's post.

You take your time with your work, matthewp. We all apreciate quality over speed.

I'd really like to see another book as well. The last three Support Specialists (Commissar, Storm Trooper, and Sanctioned Psyker) need the same treatment that the rest of the specialties received. It feels like the line is incomplete until that happens.

Plus, with Grimtoof in charge of such a massive Waaagh! I would REALLY love to see rules for Stompas and Gargants presented more than anything.

I, personally, would like to see updated official rules for playing Xenos characters.

Xeno characters not really fit to Only War. Perhaps a new Rouge Trader or an mercenary update for Black Crusade....

I check the forums every few months or so just to see if there's any news about this. I really, REALLY like playing Commissars...and the line feels incomplete without this book.

I would love to see anther book like the rest of you.

But I think to be Realistic This is not going to happen, it's just been to long, and many other fantasy flight products have Spring boarded into success , more so then there warhammer RPGs ( broad term for all of them).

It might just be a case of advertising, I know I got into these games a few years ago when TotalBisucit and a few Esport's celebrities did a short roleplay show. Yet ive not really seen anything apart from the grimdark podcasts, and a few external forums that promotes any of the games. 90% of the staff in my Local Games work shop, had no Idea these existed, one manager even flat out said that there was no such thing, till I brought a book in for him to see.

With the release of dark heresy two, which I personally find a huge improvement on the first ( other opinions differ) I think It might be safe to say, they will go for rogue trader 2nd edition next, and carry on the back grounds system. Which would make only war alot better, if you choose your characters back ground before he or she joined the guard, then there speciality as a guardsmen and so on.

We might be barking up a dead tree, but it better that sleeping under it... If that metaphor makes sense... I find it hard to believe that they are going to leave DH 2E where it is.

I think FFGs have put the 40K RPGs on the long finger to cash in on the Star Wars hype, but when they get back round to them do you think we will be more or less likely to get the spat book if we have a thread with 100+ responses on it, and a huge number of ideas for what we would like to see? In the mean time I get to talk to, and hear the opinions of other enthusiastic players! I'm still interested in what mattewp will post (please post a link on this thread).

I wish I had the time to run an OW campaign for a podcast. That would be awesome! Awesome podcasts, please contact me and convince me!

PS My opinion on DH2E is that it is more balanced but less 40K-esque. I think both systems have their merits, and the game I'd run would depend on the story I'd want to tell.

I would be in favor of another splatbook release. If you want a bit more visibility than these fora, you may find it beneficial to start an online petition. I know, signing a petition on the Internet is about as helpful as wishing upon a star, but it can't hurt.

My thought is get 4chan in a rage about it somehow. 'FFG STEALTH ABANDONS YET ANOTHER RPG' should suffice.

My knee-jerk reaction is to recommend 8chan over 4chan, but for this sort of incoherent rage halfchan works just fine. I myself don't frequent that site, but I'll make a post in the 40k general on 8chan's /tg/ board.

Can you post a link here please?
