Points costs: Named pilots & Liaisons

Just a comment thread, curious on views, specifically:

Named pilots seem really good for the points. Not only do they get an ability and two defence tokens, they sometimes have better dice.

All that for 6-7 points - the cost of a card. Seems a lot for not a lot..

Secondly liaison cards - seem a bit poor.

A command token is worth something like 2 points (a rough guess based on veteran captain being worth 3)

Liaison allows you to change your order at the cost of a token.

Maybe they'll be worth it for larger ships but there's already Leia for the rebellion.

Liason's are definitly more for the larger ships. Tarkin will work well with them to make the large Star Destroyers much more responsive to what's happening on the table.

Liaisons transform a token into a command. It basically double/triple the effect of the token, while allowing flexibility.

Yeah I agree, Tarkin and the liasons work really well together, I've had a few games with Tarkin with and without the liasons and always missed having them.

Tarkin as admiral + offensive liaison on your VSD = great flexibility.

You'll pretty much always have picked the right command at the right time. At a measly 3 points.

Maybe not the most awesome combo, but I wouldn't discount it.

For inexperienced players flying big ships it's worth a lot more.

About right the higher cost ones like Luke and Vader really put the pinch on your remaining squadron points, but are highly effective if used right.

I've found Dutch to be awesome, and tycho and fel with their counter and a scatter token to be nasty.

Named fighter pilots are priced about right, much higher and they wouldn't be worth it.

If your opponent knows what he is doing he can hunt them down with fighters and kill them as accuracy rolls still negate their defence tokens. I have managed to kill off named pilots like Luke in one turn of combat

Howlrunner/Fel are often dealt with in this manner - with low hits they tend to die very quickly when shot at by an X-wing with flight controllers or Wedge or some such
