Bloodmoon Adventure Only at Night?

By MisterDoor, in Talisman

So, first time poster here, hopefully it's in the right spot :3

Me and my husband have recently started getting REALLY into Talisman (Soooo addicting)

and we noticed that even with only two expansions (Bloodmoon and Highlands) we have a loooot of adventure cards and we're worried that certain items/events won't have a good chance of happening if we fuse the decks.

So, we thought, why not have the base adventure deck be used during the day and at night players must use the bloodmoon deck (Thematically it works, as most of the creatures in it are night oriented creatures).

Do you pros here think that's a good way to play or would it create issues I can't foresee?

I also play with my spouse. Its the kinda thing you get used to or not! Many players here don't like over or under dilutions of Adventure deck(s) but I'm one of the ones who plays with every single expansion. For sure you don't encounter all the cards you might like to. I'm sure there are cards that have never, ever come up (but not very many) in our games. But we like the uncertain factor, frankly.

We tried the house rule last night.

It worked well, I think.

During the night, we avoided ghosts and spirits, and drew from the blood deck hoping for some good events/items before we went to the Highlands in hopes of a relic or two.

In the highlands, we drew only from the highland deck regardless of day/night but any "monsters of the dark" would still be affected by the +/-1

All in all, I think it worked out great!

The deck didn't feel diluted and base cards were still appearing very frequently (And we did mix in the few Highland adventure cards into the main deck)

Because we use all expansions I have given thought to how the Day/Night cycle of Bloodmoon could make things more interesting, or at least allow some caveats.

For example I have this really strong aversion to placing Dragon Scales (from the Dragon expansion) in the shops of the City expansion.

So it would be easy to say "All shops close at Night" and any player in a shop is immediately moved to the space outside the shop. Therefore players drawing a scale are never in the shop to do this - at night. Of course that doesn't solve Day time scale pulling, but I might have another thought about that, snicker-snicker.

We were actually considering buying the Dragon Expansion but I might go for dungeon/woodlands next:3

Or perhaps Reaper...

I also like all expansions at once, but Bloodmoon has a few cards I take out, some of those that are overly Halloweenish. I do like the idea of a Night deck though! I might even expand it and find other cards from the Adventure deck to go in it. But some of the cards in Bloodmoon are for day, and do effect the day night mechanics. BTW, I do not like the +1/-1 and at my house I don't play with that, but I do with my friends at their houses.

I, and many others, highly recommend Reaper, I, and many others, recommend not using the Dragon expansion with official rules. Some don't like it at all, but many like it with variants. Check out my Dragon expansion poll here:

I noticed some cards have different effects during the night and day segments of play, meaning that with a night deck, they'd only ever be drawn at night.

Basically, it just makes them, typically, more of evil cards than positive ones which I'm fine with.
