300pt double Whale 10-Ywing list?

By droz69, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

There was a Double Whale List I really really liked that carried around 10 Y's. Anyone remember that list?

Maybe like this:

Rebels - 300

Assault Frigate Mark II B - 106

- Garm Bel Iblis

- Veteran Captain

- Expanded Hanger Bay

- Flight Controllers

Assault Frigate Mark II B - 94

- Gallant Haven

- Veteran Captain

- Expanded Hanger Bay

- Flight Controllers

10 Y-wing Squadrons - 100

Oh god all those hull points...

If I had ten ywings I would consider that

Why not take 3 XWings and 6 Ywings?

because those are not 10 y-wings :P

All joking aside, I know that Y-wings have "Heavy", but I feel as though they often get swept aside by B-wings or X-wings. Is Heavy that bad? Do Y-wings absolutely need escorts, especially if there's 10 squads and two cap ships with Flight Controllers?

probably not in this specific list devoting 2 cap ships and full squadron points to y-wings and supporting them

imo, Y-wings don't need Escorts since they're easily the cheapest points per health in the game (both the most health in the game and 2nd cheapest ship in the game) so saddling them with an X-wing does essentially nothing since the X is the preferred target unless you send the Ys first, let them get beat up, and then lock the enemy down with x-wings.

Problem is Heavy keeps you from doing much of anything to other squadrons. Because Ys can't engage, other bombers are free to ignore them and other squadrons are free to fly right past them to hit squishier targets. A single A-wing can shut down rhymer + bombers for a couple of turns, Y-wings cannot and have to actually down those 5 hull with 2 blue dice. Conversely, a single tie fighter will tie up y-wings until you deal 3 damage (an average of 3 attacks)

Basically, you don't need to enable Ys, they're just not very good at anything but being chuncky and hitting ships (the later of which B-wings almost do twice as well, albeit with a bit more difficult getting there)

When you got a swarm of 10 black dice and 60 hull points, though + FC for a decent blue dice anti-squadron and enough Squadron to hurl all 10 Y-wings in a single turn...those drawbacks might not be so significant :P

That's it. Thanks!

I made the 10 Y-Wing list.

The two AFs need to be As so you can use their anti-squadron dice to punch through the enemy fighter screen.

AF II A

Garm

Controller

Expanded

AF II A

Controller

9x Y-Wings

I like variants that mix in Luke and some X-Wings as well since it's quite pricey to buy 5 rebel aces.

Yeah i just made that list off the top of my head, i never actually saw the 9 or 10 Y-wing build

how good is that list? i would want some great results for it to be worth it money wise

Two Vic's that don't even see the board, Two AF's, 5 rebel packs...my opponent should explode when he sits at the table.

Maybe just borrow some Y-wings and try it out.

or just run 7 X-wings

they're not Y-wings and therefore not as awesome, but they definitely get the job done for the more economical player :)
