Internal dampened and actions

By balindamood, in X-Wing Rules Questions

The card reads that it is a white manuver, THEN receive a stress token. This seems to suggest that one could take an action before stress is applied. The rules state that you check for stress then perform an action (if able).

So, which is it? This was quite the (friendly) debate last night.

The order should follow like this as per the Activation Phase

  1. Reveal dial, decide to use Inertial Dampeners instead.
  2. Set your template (none to set)
  3. Execute your maneuver, (which is a white maneuver), then apply the stress token as per the card.
  4. Check for pilot stress (was it green or red? - No)
  5. Clean up
  6. Perform Action step, but you've got a stress token, so you can't take any actions.

Parravon has it. Inertial Dampeners triggers when you reveal your dial, and is fully resolved before moving on to the next step. So you've got a stress before you finish Step 3.

Thanks. I thought that was the correct answer. The fact that is a white manuver allows to to take when.you are already stressed, but you get a second token.

As someone pointed out to me Adrenaline Rush + Inertial Dampeners allows a ship to K-Turn one round, pull a 0 the next, and follow it up with another K-Turn the third. If that maneuver doesn't already have a name, I'd like to suggest "The Spanish Inquisition".

No one expects it!

Wait, I don't follow.

Round 1: K-Turn and discard AR to change it to white maneuver

Round 2: Use ID to pull 0. Get a free stress token

Round 3: There's a stress from ID still - where does the next K-Turn get in here?

What am I missing here?

Clever, but 3 turns in a row without actions is not usually a winning strategy. Maybe just use a Defender if you want to pull off a move like this?

A: Defender can't pull an Inertial Dampener

2: Your opponent may be able to fire on you with the K-Turn move. However, the following two will see their ships blow right past you, and into your sights. Against anything but turrets, this is crazy enough to buy you an advantage. 2 green maneuvers later, while you've got them in arc, and you're golden.

The ships that have the slots to do this are:

Aggressor.

Named Starviper with title. (no K-Turn, would need to substitute a S-Loop)

The Scum named Z-95s

Palob or Dace (but they don't have a K-Turn or S-Loop)

All of the Scum Firesprays not named Emon

Wave 7 ships:

Any Khiraxz with an EPT (this might be a cool combo is the PS5 generic has an EPT)

Any YV-666 (no clue if the dial will make this useful or not)

Don't get me wrong, I think this could be a fun combo but I don't think it would be ultra competitive. Most of the ships that can pull it off have much better options for their EPT. I do think that if anything could pull it off, using it on one of the two Aggressors in an IG-88B and D pair might work out. Use FCS or Accuracy Corrector to help keep up your offense. With Accuracy Corrector or Advanced Sensors you'd come in at 47 points letting you spend 53 on the other.

IG-88D (36)
Adrenaline Rush (1)
Accuracy Corrector (3)
"Mangler" Cannon (4)
Inertial Dampeners (1)
Autothrusters (2)
IG-2000 (0)
Total: 47
A lot of the power of this combo comes from giving your ship the ability to do the unexpected. Even if you don't use the chain I mentioned, pulling a K-Turn while stressed or deciding to just not move are things that your opponent won't expect or something that they will need to adjust their normal thinking to allow for.

Cool. Thank you. I didn't think to turn the whole AR on it's head and use it last. Clever.
