I'm Calling It: Waves 8 and 9, Scum and Villainy Aces and Huge Ship

By DirbYh, in X-Wing

Simce everyone else has used the phrase, I think I'm entitled to just once. :P

Wave 8 will be like wave 5. Just 2 large ships, but for Scum and Villainy.

-Jumpmaster 5000 (Dengar's ship)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/JumpMaster_5000

-Scurrg H-6 Bomber (So Scum have an ordinance carrier)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Scurrg_H-6_prototype_bomber

This is a no brainer, since both are in Rogues and Villains for Armada.

(Rogue?) Aces, will likely be one each of the M3-A and the Star Viper, though it could be a pair of M3-As and a Viper comes with the large ship.

Speaking of the large ship, the Interceptor-class frigate is just about in that 150 meter sweet spot, and imo, the most likely candidate.

Wave 9 should come right around the new movie release and be exclusively new ships from the movie. X-Wing might get a cool title/upgrade. (Switch Astromech for Systems slot?)

There, now I'm on record, right or wrong.

I don't they'd neglect two of their factions, especially with Scum almost up to speed now.

I think it will be a while before we see Episode 7 ships. Its not like the designers at FFG get to see advanced copies of the movie or anything. They'll have to see the movie, come up with the design, playtest it and then finally release it 12-18 months after the film hits theatres. I think Alex Davy said they operate on an 18 month release schedule.

As long as we don't get the Starchaser and Gunboat, I will be happy.

Besides Nym and a Feeorin pirate pilot card can you name any that would make such an expansion viable?

Do they need multiple pilots in Armada? I doubt it will exist in X-wing just because it was made for Armada.

The Jumpmaster 5000 is so obvious you're not really going out on a limb or anything, if FFG wants to do OT ships they will do the Jumpmaster 5000.

You've got the obvious half right anyway.

What's wrong with the Assault Gunboat? It's like a Lambda starfighter and seems fairly sensible in-universe.

You don't need to see a ship to design its game mechanics. The ep 7 X-wings, in particular, are an obvious easy thing to roll out anytime now.

You forgot about Jabba's Yacht which will no doubt come with Jabba the Hutt 2x<crew> upgrade card.

they do have the rights to star wars ships and I would be really surprised if they don't work in conjunction with disney and artists to get the new stuff coming out.

I don't see Scum getting 5 large based ships while the Rebels have just two. It does seem logical that those two ships will be included at some point given that they are in Armada. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Scurrg ended up being a Rebel ship. Right now if you include YV-666 Scum has three, Imperials have three and Rebels have just two.

Most of the episode VII toys are being released in September, so if FFG is working on material from that movie it is under strict NDA - like we will get your family level NDA. Possibility of showing something at gencon is low, though we may get some info about what might be coming.

I'm betting the aces will be a Scyk and a khiraxz. One of which will have a super expensive illegal upgrade cloaking device.

The earliest Force Awakens stuff is expect are a new starter box (X-Wing T-70 and two First Order TIEs) and maybe a new Falcon with Rey or Poe as pilots. Maybe Darth Revan's, I mean Kylo Ren's shuttle from the trailer.

Not really spoilers and it's not like the cards give away plot details.

Anovos is a prop-making company that is licensed by LFL/Disney. They made a run of New Order Stormtrooper armor for selected members of the 501st Legion and got to handle other The Force Awakens props with sufficient time prior to Celebration to make prototype prop clothing and armor from The Force Awakens and have those props/clothing/armor at Celebration.

So it is entirely probable that FFG (and LEGO Group and Hasbro and whoever else) have gotten to see and play with 3D models of ships, characters, costumes, props, whatever from the movie so they can have the toys on shelves, in stores by October or November. Because of the time critical nature of getting the toys out before the movie and coordinating production with manufacturers in China, et al., they likely already have the complete toy lines plotted out and might already be going into production - and how long do you think it takes to design a LEGO set? That doesn't mean they know much about the story, but they will have had hands-on time with the ships and weapons and such from the movie (and will have to have a rudimentary understanding of how everything fits together so that they can psyche kids up to buy the stuff without giving too much information that will be cut from the movie).

Which is to say nothing about the guys doing the cross-section book, the guy(s?) writing the novelization, &c.

So FFG might have stuff for TFA that might even hit shelves in time for us to be picking them up before the movie hits theaters or perhaps shortly after, but we aren't likely to know until August or September at the soonest.

I just want more TIEs dammit!

I could see a scum aces pack with the viper and interceptor as well.

I second the scum aces pack. The Starviper is a good ship with poor pilots. A few new pilot cards could make it a powerhouse. I also think that the interceptor needs some love. It seems like a ship that should be flown in large quantities, so including one or two with an aces pack will be an incentive for people to experiment with it more.

I suspect that there will be something coming for the X-Wing to try to make it viable. I'm thinking maybe a Rogue Squadron title card (maybe giving the player a free re-roll). I just have no idea how they'll package it (new XW exp or coupled with other exp a la the Rebel Transport).

I also wouldn't be surprised to see a new large ship coming for the Rebels. Right now the Imps have 3, Scum has 3 (incl Bossk), and Rebels 2. The could do another Correlian transport, such as the YT-2000, but IMO that would be too similar to what they already have. They should dig through the EU to find a large, non-turretted ship that would mix things up a bit.

The HWK is listed as 29meters and has a small base. So maybe one or both of the two ships coming over from Armada don't have to have large bases.

If you look at the original source material for the craft you will see there is no way it could be 29m in length.

For the love of the force... The HWK-290 is *NOT* 5 metres shorter than the falcon. Don't use wookiepedia, who got the length from wizards of the coast (whose writers were idiots) concerning the size of the craft. WotC got it *WRONG* and some useless git pasted the info into wookiepedia.

I wondered about that length as well. I've just noticed it when comparing the entries.

However the point is still valid. We have seen larger and smaller vessels on the two base sizes. The K-Wing also seems to be pretty large for having small base.

Apart from that although it seems propable that both of those ships will get avaiable as they are included in Armada it stays open when they will come.

I don't think the Viper will get an ace, it already has Xizor, I would bet on the K-whatever fighter and the m3a getting an ace if Scum gets an ace box

Hmm i agree from a background perspektive. Although FFG seems to keep an eye on needed fixes. As the K****** is just to arrive they just had the opportunity to design it the way they wanted while the Starviper already showed some hindrence of its usage.

So i see your point but i think there are more reasons for a Viper-Ace at the moment. However it also depends on when an aces pack will get released.

As long as we get the Starchaser and Gunboat, I will be happy.

Fixed that for you.

The only ships I want?

Rebel Y-Wing Aces (2 Y-Wings in the box) with bomb options, additional astromechs, and elite talent slots.

Imperial Assault Gunboat

Rebel Y-Wing Aces (2 Y-Wings in the box) with bomb options, additional astromechs, and elite talent slots.

Y-Wings don't have any bomb slots to put bombs in.
