Team Covenant website downturn

By sinclair5150, in X-Wing

So a small amount of PR mishandling (to whit: not warning people ahead of time) combined with an awful lot of development headaches? I can't grudge them for that; I just hope they can now get the UI back to a point that it's usable again.

I know that my most recent article on their site got FAR less views, at least based on comments. :(

I feed on comments. I'm so hungry...

I read it, but i didn't comment. I'll go post a I was here, so you don't feel as hungry... ;)

It used to be a daily stop for me. Now, I've mostly forgotten it exists.

Same here

And if not for this thread I wouldn't have remembered it still existed. :P

"He's dead Jim!"

I thought their old design was bad, this one is just awful.

Random thoughts as I look at the site...

I've never liked "Create an Account!" as the first thing you hit on a page. Why on Hoth would I join a site, and provide all my contact information, when I haven't even found out what you offer me in return?
Then we hit a "Buy This!" section. Ugh, so it's a webstore? Or what?
Okay, we hit a store location in Tulsa. Well, I'm not in Oklahoma, so maybe this site isn't for me.
Oh look, a bunch of people who apparently do something with the site. Where's the content again? There is content here right? (And do you guys require a beard to participate?)

Ooooh, mission statements! (hint: no one really cares about your mission statement except you)

Oh. Videos. Random content. But it's all Tulsa stuff right now. Meh, save for later.

Announcement headings! But there's no subheadings or teasers. It looks like click-bait because of that, just to drive up page views. Meh. Pass.

OH. Blogs. But no info about who any of these people are or why their opinions should be read.

I've done a ton of social media marketing & promotional work for not-for-profit orgs in Canada. I'm not just (entirely) spouting random crap, but those were basically my observations as I scrolled and scrolled and scrolled down the page. And scrolled. There's just no real hooks for me sink my teeth into when I'm going down the page, and the fact that the real content is buried at the bottom seems very counter-intuitive. It's a visually pretty site, and it's great that it's mobile responsive, but it just doesn't appear to have any easily found content.

The "Read" button at the top actually goes somewhere interesting, but I don't always get to those until I've scrolled through a site to see if it has any thing for me.

I'd put this down as "Good first effort, but needs work".

Details are worked out and they accept the project. 25% through, they express that they cannot spend any more time on the project and that they seriously underquoted the work

So pretty much any software development project ever - shocking

It is hard to find people out there who care about their work as much as we do.

I think you mean it is hard to find people to pay very little money to and ask them to care about the work as much as you do

As a web designer myself, I think the site is pretty but in terms of functionality, specifically what the x-wing contributors were used to, just isn't there anymore. I think the conscious decision was made by them that they want the site to promote the TC brand more than just be a place where the x-wing bloggers pretty much dominated they're site which is what was happening. They have always been more about the LCG side of things and the x-wing discussion was just pushing everything else out. I don't fault them for that as they are a business first and they have a mission they subscribe to. Personally I've never taken to their whole surfer dude, spiritual awakening "gaming reborn" mantra but I get their focus. I think however, that the vibrant x-wing content will have to find another place to call home now. Hopefully it will soon. While quite a few of the "regulars" there irritate me to no end, it was still good fun.

So anyone want to join me in setting up and running a new haven for us?

I'd like to give teamcovenant a little more time to correct their problems, but I'll assist if they can't get it straight soon.

At least they appear to be transparent about the issues... and what caused many of them:

I would not like to be in their shoes. There have been some good comments added to that which should provide them with better feedback than "you guys suck". As they often have stock and some really good analyst players, I'm willing to give it time to correct itself. We'll hope it can become better than it was...
