I think it throws out enough crits to scare any big ship, however the strength of the B-Wing is when it is flown in numbers for overwhelming firepower and absurd amounts of HP. Also you would need to be rolling 3 hits at range 3 to take advantage of Mangler + E'tahn + Merc, so it seems a bit overkill in that department.

Agreed. Since Merc only works at range 3, I would swap him out for Intelligence Agent. Int Agent will let you see where his higher PS ships are going so you can more efficiently use your barrel rolls to get out of their arcs, block their K-turns or S-loops, and do some convenient action-blocking.
