Deployment and LOS

By Windupboy, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

Hi everybody,

New to this game and I might have missed this question coming up before.

But: when deploying new Imperial units, are there any restrictions expect from using only the green deployment zone until others have been activated? Can a squad really be deployed in LOS of Rebel heroes? We played "Aftermath" the other day and the red deployment zone was activated. The Rebels reached the storage room and I deployed a squad of Stormtroopers in plain sight of the heroes, which led to much frustration from the Rebel players ("did those troopers beam in?")

Also, when deploying forces in Reserve in a particular area, like the reserves in the Storage room in "Aftermath", can you place the models on any square in that area?

Thanks!

Yes, deployment can happen to a point in sight of the rebels. Think of it as another door or hatch that isn't drawn on the map tile, since those tiles have to be re-used in lots of different contexts.

And yes, when deploying to a named area and not a colored deployment point, you can put them on any space on the specified cardboard map tile segment.

If you have problems with the immersion of Imperials spawning in plain sight, just imagine that there are doors in those walls or just a second floor above from where they jump down.

Or maybe the rebels were in too much of a hurry to properly clear the room?

There is no LOS restriction on where imperials are deployed in the campaign.

or the rebels did not have correct inteligence about the whereabouts of any guards..

A bit like Han running after a couple of stormies, only to run into a whole squad of them.

Totally canon!

I think you did something wrong and that's why the Rebel Players complained.

In 'Aftermath' the squad of Stormtroopers - along with the Imperial Officer - is deployed "The first time the door opens" as I guess you actually did. That event interrupts that currently activated Hero, so no rebel can possibly be in the storage room while you deploy the squad. The idea is that those nasty people were already there but the rebels found it only after opening the door - which makes sense thematically.

I reckon you deployed those reserved groups at the end of round the door opens the first time and not when the door was first opened.

OP mentioned that he was using the red deployment point on this mission, which is enabled by an Imperial choice and located inside the complex. That would allow him to deploy to that room the start of a later round, even if rebels are standing in the room.

We have Line of Sight on this entire corridor. There's no way the Empire can deploy figures here. What's that noise? Oh crap!

That comlink....it came from....INSIDE THE SHIP!!!!!
