Going Deeper in the SW-Universe - Book Recommendations

By Seguleh, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi.

Since aproximatly one year I am very intrested in Star Wars (i dont dare to call me a fan competed to others) and i would like to have more backround informations. So I started looking for books but the numbers are overwhelming. So maybe you can give me some good advices, or you just chat a little bit about the books u liked and which were redundant.

The two kinds of most interest would be sourcebooks (i owe the "haynes" Milenium falcon user manuel, and a similar book about the deathstar) and the "star wars masters" series.

As sourcebooks i would love a book about planetsystems, or about spaceships and weapons. but also about species and so on would be cool.

To the SWM series i have concrete questions: is there a storyline going throu? i would have ordered the first book, but then i saw its about episode one, and i thought... meh. but the later ones sound intresting.

Thank u guy for every good star wars information. (oh, and i will watch rebels and buy the FFG-Books when they are available in my region finaly)

Wookieepedia clearly is the most complete source for all information related to Star Wars and, best of all, its completely free :)

If you'd like to purchase books and don't mind that a major part of their content is now considered as being "Legends", then I can make the following recommendations:

- Star Wars: The Essential Atlas (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_Essential_Atlas)

- The New Essential Chronology to Star Wars (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_New_Essential_Chronology)

- If you like blueprints: Star Wars Vehicles (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_Complete_Vehicles)

- If - like me - you appreciate maps and if you manage to find a copy: Star Wars: Complete Locations (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_Complete_Locations)

Is this the Star Wars Master series you mentioned in your post:

If yes, I think they are called differently in English.

If you like comics, have no issues reading them in English and don't mind the electronic format, I recommend the Marvel Unlimited offering which now also covers dozens and dozens of Star Wars comics.

I haven't had a chance to dig into it yet (my reading list is asounding), but I recently picked up a copy of Star Wars Blueprints: Rebel edition at a gently used bookstore.

The canon pool is currently too shallow to dive in. I honestly would avoid the wookiepedia, at least if you are looking for canon info. The wookiepedia is far too muddled with the old Expanded Universe, now legends.

Ultimate Star Wars, as far as I recall, is confirmed as being all canon. If you care about that, of course.

I make no claims to its accuracy, but on wookiepedia there are canon/legend tabs at the top of many pages. Or just a Legends tab if it is firmly ensconced in legends now.

Wookieepedia clearly is the most complete source for all information related to Star Wars and, best of all, its completely free :)

Yeah, but you really need to install a adblocker for your browser. There are so many banners and auto-play videos and spam that yes it's free, but it chugs my computer something fierce without it.

I know it's not a reference book, but I have found 'Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina' a big help/inspiration for thinking about life in the fringes of the galaxy. After all, if you're trying to tell a story with your players, wouldn't it make sense to take inspiration from some actual stories? And if you like that, move on to 'Tales from Jabba's Palace'.

Thx guys u made my decision realy easier! I ordered

Star Wars Masters, Bd. 3: Crimson Empire I

Star Wars: Complete Vehicles

and The Essential Atlas: Star Wars (Star Wars: Essential Guides)

They should arrive today, so next week i can give you a feedback.

(ahhhhhh so exited! new books yay!)

Deutsch (da Du nun indirekt bestätigt hast, dass Du ebenfalls deutschsprachig bist ;)): Cool! Danke für das Update. Viel Spass mit Deinen neuen Büchern.
English: Cool! Thanks for the update. Have fun with your new books.

All of the above are great. I would add a couple more:

If you'd like a good overview of Legends stories without having to read all the books, then the Essential Readers Companion is great. Also has some excellent original artwork.

The other I'd recommend is The Essential Guide to Warfare.
