Not statblocks for the characters from the adventure book or anything, but literally the stats for the jewel itself. My players successfully stole it, and the Force-sensitive among them is planning on shaping it into a lightsaber crystal! He assumes it'll be better than the Illum he has now.
What stats would you give the Jewel of Yavin, from a lightsaber smith's perspective? I've not meddled with the crystals in F&D enough to know even where to begin.
Stats for the Jewel of Yavin
From what I remember from previous threads on this subject, the stats given to this jewel is more akin to
the crystals found at the end of the FaD-beta adventure
but I may of course be wrong.
I see no reason it should be better than the already quite powerful and badass Ilum crystal.
Tricky question, the jewel was left without stats intentionally. I think that the stats will be released in one of the F&D career book. Right can think of two options:
1) copy the stats of one of the most powerful crystal (since by the fluff, Corusca gems are very rare i could see them being equal or only slightly less powerful than Krayt Dragon pearls), but allow no modifications
2) give it the stats of a another (modded) lightsaber crystal explaining it's also a corusca gem: [damage 10, critical 1, Breach 1, Defensive 1, Deflection 2, Sunder, Vicious 2] That should be quite bit better than even a fully modded Ilum, so your player can be happy ( if you want to make the gem even more powerful, allow for a couple of +1 mods to be intalled in the future)
Jeger, from what we have read in the adventure fluff about the Corusca gems they are very rare and powerful, so i don't see why they should be significatly less badass than an ilum crystal, actually quite the contrary i think Corusca are naturally better than ilum crystal and the stats should be higher. Just like any of the rarer crystal in F&D are more powerful than the common ilum crystal.
I think that Ilum crystals are supposed to be the baseline crystal with every different crystal being more powerful but rarer to find.
I can see Corusca gems being on par with Krayt Dragon Pearls or Barab Ingots, but the Jewel of Yavin itself seems to me to be something that would be too big to put into a lightsaber. You’d have to cut it down into a size more suitable. You might get five or even ten lightsaber-size crystals out of that one gem, although IMO it would be a crime against the galaxy to do that.
Or do something else with it. Maybe you could make it the focusing crystal of a different type of weapon or propulsion system, so that it’s more powerful than anything else in that category? Maybe a 0.2 Hyperdrive? Or maybe a Medium Laser Cannon that does as much damage as a Medium Turbolaser?

Though the other thing is there's nowhere really to sell it. Most people who could buy it, won't. Goons will collect for cheaper. So it's really quite limited what you can do with it. Didn't stop my character stealing it three times! (Well, twice technically, money was the third time.)

creating incredibly powerful lightsaber crystals would be a crime against the galaxy, but using them to power a laser cannon would not? i see you follow the han solo school of weapons design.
mayi don't see why they should be significatly less badass than an ilum crystal
Canon sources are ... limited .
Legend sources provide some more info . First of all, they have shatterpoints, extreme weak points, in addition to being incredibly strong, so that's fun. 1 or 2 Despairs ruins the crystal? or at least renders the lightsaber inoperable until repaired ?
It's only mentioned as being used in a lightsaber twice in that article. It links to the SWG wiki, which gives it defensive qualities by reducing critical hits, when "held tightly" - whatever that means. So perhaps the crystal can provide a couple of ranks of Durable? or function like a Massive quality on personal scale as long as the lightsaber is activated?
Jewel of Yavin does of course not mention the shatterpoint, calling the gem "virtually indestructible".
I'm not entirely sure why it should be a lot more powerful than the Ilum, the fact that it's rare doesn't mean it's powerful and badass.
I'd perhaps treat it as an Ilum crystal, perhaps - if going with the SWG wiki idea - exchanging some of the mod options (Vicious or Crit improvement) with Durable... and perhaps Unstoppable. That's pretty beardy though.
EDIT: added key word...
Edited by JegergryteYou could use the stats that i posted above.
They belong to Eliza's lightsaber's crystal. It is pretty powerful with very good defensive abilities (so it kinda fits the lore) and explains why she wants the Jewel in the first place.
Omg using the jewel of yavin in a player light saber is a wonderful idea!

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. Doing anything to destroy the Jewel of Yavin would be a crime against the galaxy, regardless of what you’re doing with it.
If you’ve just adapted it to improve the focusing firepower of a laser cannon and the crystal is otherwise unharmed, that would be a lesser crime.

Why? the jewel is suited to be in a lightsaber, maybe even many lightsabers given it's size, isn't that abetter use of it than keeping it as nice thing to look at?
That depends on your point of view...
Lightsabers are illegal, belonging to a corrupt sect of religious fanatics that tried to overthrow the Republic, which luckily led to the formation of the glorious Empire!
They aren't illegal in the new canon. Just suspect.

Look again at the size of the Jewel of Yavin:
That looks to me to be about the size of a baseball, or maybe even a softball. Certainly way bigger than the Cullinan I, which is the largest cut gem-quality diamond in the world, and is the centerpiece of the British Crown Jewels .
Now, look again at the size of lightsaber crystals:
That looks to me like it’s about the size and shape of a typical human distal phalange:
So, how many parts would you have to chop the Jewel of Yavin into, in order to make the resulting pieces small enough to go into a lightsaber?

True. I just heard Luke say that while listening to Heir to the Jedi .

Wrong question. Instead ask: How big of a lightsaber could you make with the Jewel of Yavin? Perhaps even something on the planetary scale?

Can't find an appropriate Tim the Toolman Taylor vid to post and with the new windows can't figure out how to put a meme but would love to.

So, would that be a 1 or 2 HP ship attachment?

Since there are no official stats this is what Legends of the Galaxy uses for our Organized Play.
I'd treat it as a mephite crystal but without the annoying feature of broadcasting your presence to other force sensitives.
