I have a Mini Swam with Howlrunner and Rhymer with some serous firepower. But is it worth putting 44 points into Rhymer?
Is it worth put 44 points into Major Rhymer?
Big targets need big defences.
No, it isn't. Sorry. ![]()
It's not worth putting 27 points into Major Rhymer.
Short answer: no
Long answer: nnnnnoooooo
Even post-Wave 7, ordnance will still be subpar. It's terrible now.
Edited by R2ShihTzuOnly if the range two only ordnance (Advanced Homing Missile?) coming in Wave 7 is overpowered at range 1 and 3.
Even if ordnance were fine, Rhymer would not be. He doesn't have a 4-5 point pilot ability, yet pays for one.
Edited by TIE PilotIf you're playing Epic, yes.
In Epic you'd take two TIE bombers rather than a 44pt Rhymer. Or an HLC Rexler.
Not if you houserule it so Rhyme's can shoot all R3 capable ordinance at R4.
Don't load Rhymer that heavy. If your set on using Rhymer try him with Cluster and Push the Limits. Have Two Tiies as Black Squadron with Draw their Fire if Possible to protect Howl and Rhymer and Dark Curse 'cause he's Dark Curse.
44 points into 6 hull behind 2 agility. Well lets see what else you can get for 44 points. How about a patrol leader with Yssane Issard which has 4 shields 12 hull and an evade token half way there. Super Dash builds go for just a little more than 44 points.
But as I say it depends on what your build is and a 44 point Major rhymer isn't going to do all that good. If you are building a 2 ship build well 44 points is worth more than 2 academy pilots and is taken down easier as it doesn't have evade action and less agility. So 44 points will leave you exposed in the MOV setting.

Dark curse may be an annoying little tank but if you go to time and dark curse is the only thing you got left. you better have had destroyed 84 points otherwise you will go to lost and you would need 96 points for a match win. Now Canor Jax would be better focus denial but the problem is you have to get in close and then hope you can survive with your 3 agility and 3-4 hull.

Anything works if you change the game rules.
Only if the range two only ordnance (Advanced Homing Missile?) coming in Wave 7 is overpowered at range 1 and 3.
I hope that the AHM will make Rhymer worthwhile.
Can't wait for a spoiler for this card!
The only way to make Rhymer work is playing Armada.
If it works for you, it works for you. I've taken Tie Bombers and had success. I've not used Rhymer, though. Post Wave 7, though, should make him better. Adv. Homing Missile has a lot of potential.
I've been messing around with a 45 points Rhymer recently, proxying the 'Extra Munitions' upgrade card;
Major Rhymer - 26
Push the Limit - 3
Advanced Proton Torpedoes - 6
Ion Pulse Missiles - 3
Proton Rockets - 3
Seismic Charge - 2
Extra Munitions - 2
Capable of massive damage to any ship with the 1-2 combo of Ion Pulse/Advanced Proton's, but still a relatively easy to kill ship. I've combated this somewhat by flying him with 2 x BSP w/ Draw their Fire and a Lambda w/ Fleet officer and Tactical Jammer.
Rhymer gets a significant increase in durability here; He can claim +1 defense from the Shuttle, palm up to 2 crits per attack off on the Ties and gain an additional focus for defense from Fleet Officer. Proton Rockets mean in a clutch Rhymer can get a focus from the Shuttle before K-turning behind the enemy lines and still have a modifiable 4-dice attack at range 1-2. Push the limit can also be used sparingly when the Focus is available from the Shuttle, and frees up barrel roll shenanigans when needed whilst still having TL/Focus to launch devastatingly powerful missile strikes at all ranges. Ditching the bombs to upgrade the P-Rockets to Homing, Cluster or Concussion missiles is also a fair option which I have tried, but being able to K-turn and still launch the P-Rockets for a 4 dice focus attack has proved more useful than the extra accuracy/range of the others provides.
So far I've had mixed success. Ioning a fattie and then hitting them with a couple of Advanced Proton Torps can ruin their day quick-smart. But bad flying and poor rolls can see you with a dead bomber and dozens of points of unused secondary weapons equally fast.
High risk, high reward, fun as hell! Over-priced fighters with under-powered upgrades for the win! ![]()

I was trying to keep a good number of ships in the squad for Howl but honestly It might be better just to drop Howl for stronger ships in general.
Bombers are one of my main ships but I rarely fly Rhymer: If I was going to do a Bomber squad it's with Jonus squad or Scimitars armed with just a bomb. Extra Munitions is going to help them greatly but I'm going to agree with everyone else if the new Missile has limited range it might be a toy that helps Rhymer out.

I'm really hoping it is. I'd love to see AHM be really strong against arc-dodgers, and Plasma Torpedoes be really strong against fat turret ships.

If the plasma torp is designed to do extra damage to shields, it won't help much vs. the Decimator. Their shields go down super fast already. Could be good against stuff like YTs, Firesprays and B-wings though. Like the Advanced Homing Missile, I'm really curious to see what these do.
Edited by Immaterium PressEven though he's one of my favorite pilots I'd say no.
He's overcosted, but I like flying him nonetheless.
I prefer to put Predator and Proton Rockets on him. Add a bomb or a modification if you like. Tie Bombers are the best.
