What exactly does a Medical Frigate do in a dogfighting game?

In Armada, Neb-B Escort Frigates are jack of all trades that combine decent long range firepower with solid squadron support + anti-squadron firepower but suffer from long, spindly, shootable sides (and Star Destroyers to the face, but who wouldn't suffer there :P?)

Medical frigate was a special modified nebulon b frigate. Most were warships.

Yep, it's the 1/450. So in scale with the Corvette, if not the fighters.

That thing is amazing. If there was a higher-resolution version of it I'd be seriously tempted. WSF just isn't my thing.

1st: I'm super jealous of that beautiful ship on your table!

2nd: I almost think the "correct" scale for a Nebulon B would be something like x-wing/CR-90 = CR-90/Nebulon B. So: 270/450 = 450/X (solve for X). I think that gives us a scale of 1/750.

I'm not 100 percent sure what actual size that gives us for the nebulon B at the 1/750 scale (my math gets really hazy...), but I think that should leave us something quite nice.

But the point is that it shouldn't be on the same scale as the CR-90, but rather on a scale that is a linear progression from the CR-90. Doing it that way leaves you with a huge (and Huge) ship that also fits on your table.

I also think maybe a ship that big should have 3 sections instead of 2 sections. Not for the stability of it, per se, but to give it more options and more oomph on the table. More hardpoints, more teams, more crew, and a 3rd action per turn. To be honest, that 3rd action would be incredibly important. Huge ships are nearly as starved for action economy as they are for energy.

I do however think it`s too big- using the same scale as CR-90 was a big mistake.

Nebulon B as it is now, is likely the biggest ship you can field in an X-Wing game. It would have made more sense to use the sliding scale and then left some room at the top for an in-universe ship that was bigger than Nebulon-B. Something like the Imperial class-II Frigate. Which actually looks like a star destroyer while only measuring in at 400 meters.

With this Nebulon-B there is no more room to include larger ships.

I do half expect FFG to make their own Nebulon B on the sliding scale though- and maintain the option of cramming in something even bigger at the same size as the Nebulon B made by space rocks.

Space rocks has made a cool ship, but the size wasn`t very forward thinking... Still ordered it though- because it`s awesome. I`ll replace it when FFG release their own version.. :)

NOTE TO WOULD-BE BUYERS:

I ordered mine 7 weekds ago and paid upon ordering.

Since then i`ve received no update and "Space Rocks" have not responded to my e-mails asking for updates. If I don`t hear anything over the next week, I`ll have to initiate proceedings with the credit card company and my bank, in order to get my money back. It`s an awesome ship, but i don`t know anything about Space Rocks and not responding to customer enquiries has me somewhat worried.

Buadolino, it does say on the Space Rocks page that Neb b ships 6-8 weeks after purchase. So at 7 weeks, he's still within his stated time frame.

I'm sorry to hear they have not gotten back to you.

So far I have found Mike at Space Rocks to be pretty good to communicate with. Whenever I have pinged him, he's given me an update within 24 hours.

From what Mike told me when I emailed him about an eta: "Good day to you Mike! My apologies that I haven’t come back to you sooner. We’re currently gearing up for a move to the US - not the best time to move considering the Nebulon-B and what have you…but I suppose there never will be a ‘good time’ to move to the other side of the world!

Tonight I planned to send a blanket email to all of our pre-orderers with an update, but I’ll address you personally seeing as you’ve emailed ;)
You’ll have only seen about 4 or 5 of our frigates on forums, and all bar one of these are review copies. As is the case with any new product, version one is always flawed to one degree or another and improvements must be made. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been making those improvements and working out how to make the Nebulon-B faster and better quality.
A few things have become apparent:
1) all communications arrays, aerials and the discharge vanes on the engine block need to be supplied separately for the customer to install. Otherwise these parts are likely to break in transit/if the model is dropped
2) the way the fore, aft and mid sections connect together has had to be changed. Whilst they are very solid to begin with, we’re of the opinion that after extensive assembly and disassembly, the connections will wear and eventually fail. We’ve now completely redesigned the way the model fits together, making it far simpler and sturdier
3) the mold line was a bit…noticeable.
4) it takes too long to make to be viable - we’ve completely changed the method of production in order to speed it up, which also reduces the appearance of the mold line in the process AND makes the model even sturdier
5) the original pre-paintjob was too dark and a bit flat - our new method of painting is significantly lighter and accentuates the huge amount of detail on the model (new pics are live on our website - this is what you can expect to receive).
We originally said that the pre-orders would be shipped September/October time, with the secret plan to be late August/early September (under promise, over deliver and all that!). Of course, we gave ourselves lots of leeway in case of major design issues, always considering the move to the US in mind as well.
We have had to make major design overhauls that have meant the creation of several new molds, which is no small feat. We could have sent out some Nebulon-Bs using the old molds but, frankly, given the catalogue of potential issues described above, we’d much rather deliver something closer to perfect later than deliver something half-decent to you earlier than planned. Hopefully that resonates with you!
We’re very much hoping that we’ll have new molds that fix all issues this weekend and we’ll be able to get a few out to customers before we stop production next Wednesday for a week as we move. Because of when you ordered, you would be one of those few customers ;)
If the mold is unsuitable - entirely possible…they can be saucy devils! - and we cannot get any Nebulon-Bs made before we leave, it will be early to mid October that we dispatch your order.
I’m sorry that I can’t be more specific. As you can imagine, everything is very much up in the air at the moment.

I'm glad they decided that "good enough for 6 months of play" (or whatever the actual amount of table time was) wasn't actually good enough. That's a level of professionalism that gives me hope that these things will actually be awesome to use.

I've never seen a good explanation as to why the Nebulon B has an exposed midsection that has docking facilities. Is it meant to dock with relatively large ships for maintenance? Is it supposed to carry cargo pods? Why can't the fore and aft sections be joined without a gap? Is the midsection actually more vulnerable to attack or is it wel armored and secure relative to other sections of the ship?

Maybe you'll find something in The Far Orbit Project, from the West End Games RPG. It has deck plans and everything.

Shouldn't be too hard to find a copy. Probably still under copyright though.

WEG did have to create large chunks of the details of the EU (before there was such a thing) without the advantage of lavish cross section books or 90s multimedia blitz or even the prequels. They did have access to over 100 issues of the original marvel comics plus the Lando and Han stories the droid's and Ewoks cartoons, but all that was ignored.

Maybe that was a good thing, I dunno. It does look like WEG did take the novelizations and even the radio dramas into account, as well as making liberal use of concept art. But maybe taking a closer look to the actual OT films would have saved us from inaccurate measurements of the Executor, walkers, and such. Not to mention totally inaccurate weapon counts on ISDs, as well as silly things like Imperial-class instead of, I dunno, any other name? I guess it works.

I just can't shake the feeling that their products made the Galaxy seem a little small, but I guess they did the best with what they had, even if they ignored a huge body of work that came before.
