Crippled CR90, blocking, ramming

By Striker44, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi and I've got a couple questions on the CR90 abilities in a recent game. We got to a point where there was one x-wing left with the CR90 vs 2 tie fighters and an interceptor. Situation: (X-wing and the interceptor are out of immediate play) the CR90 has a crippled aft section and the 2 ties are in the aft arc of the CR90 (not able to be shot at by the main gun of the CR90). Here are the confusing parts we encountered:

1. Does the crippled aft section still block shots to the fore section & from the fore section shooting backwards (the "blue line blocking")? We said it did.

2. If the aft still blocks shots, but being crippled can't be targeted or take damage, the aft section should now act like a shield until the imperials can get a clean shot on the fore section? Again, we said yes based on #1 above.

3. If the CR90 executes a maneuver that ends with the crippled aft section overlapping a ship, then that ship would be destroyed per the huge ship overlapping rules? This we weren't sure of and it was getting towards the end of the game night so it wasn't resolved.

4. If the fore and aft "section" is the fore or aft base to the front or back of the token (the cardboard base), does that create a dead spot between the fore section base and the aft section front where things like overlapping of a large ship on a small ship wouldn't happen (kind of like a figure-8) [from the faq "When a huge ship executes a maneuver and the final position of one of its sections overlaps..."]? Looking at the movement example in the faq using the GR75 it looks like a strip on either side of the blue line would be not defined as a "section" but would be part of the "base" so a small/large ship ending on the base itself (anywhere) would roll the die for damage but the big ship stopping on a smaller one wouldn't destroy the smaller ship? The movement template is lined up at the front base (where the clear plastic is wider) not on the blue line. With the GR75 it wouldn't matter as the gap isn't that wide but it might make a difference with the CR90 because the gap is bigger, not big enough to make this a common problem but in theory it could happen.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

1. Yes, it still blocks shots.

2. Correct.

3. Crippled sections still destroy small and large base ships, yes. One thing to keep in mind which you might have missed (I did until I checked the rules just now!) is that any damage that the huge ship takes on your roll is applied to the fore section, regardless of which section actually overlapped the enemy ship(s). This is different from overlapping obstacles or other huge ships, in which cases the section that overlaps takes the damage.

So in your example, the crippled aft section would destroy the enemy, and any damage you rolled would be suffered by the fore section. If the fore section were crippled instead, then your huge ship would suffer no damage from overlapping enemies.

4. What comprises a section is specified in the huge ship rules, under "Huge Ship Sections":

Huge ships count as a single ship consisting of two bases, one ship token,

and one or two Ship cards. The ship token is divided into two halves by the

blue center line. The front base and the front half of the ship token comprise

the fore section. The rear base and the rear half of the ship token comprise

the aft section.

So, no: the part of the token that bridges the two bases is considered part of the sections of the ship. If any part of that token overlaps a small or large base ship, the smaller ship is destroyed.

Ok. Looking at the rules again it makes sense. Yes, we forgot about the fore section taking the damage. Good info for the Wednesday night game coming up.
