As usual I flew the three horsemen, Soontir, Carnor, and Turr. Each with autothrusters, PTL, hull on Carnor, and stealth on Soontir, sending me into the tournament with a cool 99 points. Here's a quick over view of my experiences, thanks for the read!
So to start off round one I was pair with a local buddy of mine whom I met at the Omaha regional. Justin flew Jake and 3 B's. When we played in Omaha I was able to table him but when we met for our grudge match on his home turf, he made sure I knew no Iowan was going to waltz in without a problem. After an amazing preformance from Justin he won 0-100.. we agreed now we have to settle the grudge with a 3rd and final game seeing as how we are 1-1 now.
determined now to climb back up the losers ladder I came into round 2 with vengeance. Sam was flying scum Kath with Ion cannon, Recon Specialist, PTL, and 4 Z's. I was about to make quick work of the Z's with some dice that my luck has never seen before, though losing Soontir in the process. in the last few rounds I was able to get Turr and Carnor into R1 and dance the firespray, ending with 100-34.
Round three was fun. My opponent who's name escapes me (I'm sorry if you're reading this) flew the dual firesprays that I've come to know and love in my many battles against Doug Kenny. (he lives in my home town, we play often) fielding scum Kath with inertial dampeners, proxy mine, VI, K4, and engine upgrade, Boba with inertial dampeners, proxy mine, VI, engine upgrade, and tactician. Initially the 9 and 10 PS had me very very worried. I knew I'd have to flew extremely defensively. So I let him have initiative, thinking if it came down to kath and soontir I want to be able to have my tokens for defense and if I don't use them to survive than go aggressive. And in the end it came down to just that. With soontir staring down Boba who has three hull left and soontir with one, I knew this would be the last round for me, so I focus/evade with PTL for the additional focus through Soontir. Shooting at R3, Boba threw 3 hits. Rolling 1 eye and 3 blanks I spent a focus and the evade for 2 and autothrusters saved soontir for the 3rd evade. Shooting back I rolled 1 crit and 1 eye and 1 blank, spending the last focus and sending a hit and crit his way. Fortunately for me he blanked and the crit was a direct hit, winning me the game. 100-64
The fourth game was again vs dual firesprays. Boba and Emon this time. Boba with PTL, Recon Specialist, cluster missle, Slave 1, and engine upgrade. Emon had andrasta, 2 proxy mines, experimental interface, Recon Specialist, and inertial dampeners. Starting off knowing I have to blow Emon away before he throws those mines at me that literally could 1 shot Soontir or Turr, or bring Carnor to 1. going aggressively at Emon paid off, in the 3rd round I was able to wipe him off the map, only getting one mine off on Soontir which thankfully only did 1 damage. After Emon's death, boba furiously hunted Soontir and turr. Making quick work of the 1 hull soontir and next turn landing 2 crit to turr one being a direct hit but him into the void. After that it was an Interceptor dance on Boba with Carnor. Each at full health (Carnor:4 Boba:10) Carnor was able to pull it off unscathed, ending with 100-65.
Round 5 was against a player named Travis. He flew 4 Y-wings with btl4 ions unhinged astromechs, and 2 bomb load with sismeics. Needless to say, I lost. A good game but I'm sure you can put 1 and 1 together to figure out what happened.. 50-100
Round 6 went better for me. Flying against chewy with pred, luke, and Falcon title. And leebo with determination, outrider, and HLC. Obviously getting into the doughnut of doom on leebo was my first priority and once he was down I moved to chewy. Loosing carnor again in the fight with leebo but not before he took the shields off chewy. Soontir and Turr chased chewy around an astroid for a solid 5 turns each time he would attack soontir who had 1 hull left but I kept double focused and evade up constantly. In the end, the evasive tokens kept Soontir alive through easily 30 dice (5 rounds of 6 six dice) and Turr and soontir were able to bring the Wookie down. Ending 100-34.
Ending the tournament 4-2 and leaving me in 24th place out of the 81. I'm not disappointed in my finish but again I feel I should have and could have done better. "Hindsight is 20/20" is the best saying to remember after tournaments like these.
Thanks for the read and fly casual!
