Atlanta regionals just cut to top 8

By nikk whyte, in X-Wing

Final was a heck of a match -- took about an hour and a half, very tense, good flying, some VERY hot agility dice.

It WAS an incredible game played by two pros. We definitely had a great time casting it, I'm glad you enjoyed watching! We were quite tired, so I can't imagine how the players felt. Wishing now that I had done a better interview, but we all just wanted to go home. Fly casual! We'll be back on June 10th at 7:30PM EST!

thanks

For all your hard work in putting this together.

RAC/Fel took out home! It's over!

Are you saying Rac/Fel won it all?

Indeed. Top 8 were 3 Dual IGs, RAC/Fel, Chewbacca, Fat Han, Kenkirk/whisper, and... something else?

The other list was 4BZ

That 4BZ list was my local tournament organizer

I was really lucky to not face any of the BroBot lists until after the Top 8 cut. I was able to handle 2 Han-Z lists, a RAC-Fel, & 3 TIE Interceptor lists. I should have beaten the #1 after Swiss flying Corran-Chewie, but I completely flew my list in a horrible fashion after killing Corran. My opponent being the great player that he is, then proceeded to destroy everyone of my ships with Chewie but one B, and I proceeded to collect stress by flying through debris fields. If we would have had a few more rounds, my untouched B might could have pulled out the win vs. the damaged Chewie, but Sam just dominated that game.

Edit: I forgot to open with saying I was the 4BZ player.

So 7 out of 8 were two ship lists? Looks pretty sad to be honest.

The Fat Han list had 3 Talas, but yea it was a very heavy/fat top 8.

Also, an interesting note was that the Winner decided to save his SC super-bye for the Regional in Raleigh, and he plans on still going to that Regional. I think most of us in the Top 8 had used SC super-byes.

I'm expecting Raleigh to be about the same. I'll bring Xizor + 5 Z's, but not expect to make it to tops.

It's funny because I have around 40 games with BroBots and have yet to play vs 4BZ. I am going to Regionals this Saturday and think I have a decent plan on how to handle 4BZ, but if you have any insight into what in particular you fear from BroBots as a 4BZ player then I am all ears. :D

It wasn't 30 minutes between rounds. Once all the results were put in pairings went up with 15 minutes to setup and get snacks/use the restroom. All the players I talked to said the round timing was great. We did have a 20 minute delay in the first round due to technical issues and a short delay round 6. Part of the extra time also was giving out prizes because I had to announce the top 64 to get the boba card.

Bob, all the Brobot player had to do to beat me was kill my Z and one B and run for the rest of the game. After losing to an EU Chewie in round 4, I decided that I couldn't be as aggressive chasing with my Bs until later in the game. So, I would say stay at range 3 all day. HLC the Bs to death, but unless your attack dice are very cold, don't expect IG-B's ability to do much for you. My opponent's dice were not great, but my green dice were non-existant. That might be the only reason I didn't lose more Bs. Try to get your opponent to chase you, and draw them into the asteroids/debris. These are some of the mistakes I made in my Top 8 game.

Also be a nice opponent and consistantly mark your IGs. I had to ask which was which too many times...no cheating involved, I was just tired & couldn't easily tell.

I mark mine with "B" and "D" target locks in the ship base instead of numbers like you would with generics. Easy for me to remember as well. :)

That's on the community to play less turrets and to beat them down.

At least one of the top 8 (me, the han+3 tala) did not have a SC bye.

edit. 1+1=2 so i guess at least 2 of the top didnt have byes

Only half of the top 8 were turrets. The other 3 were Iggys. 2 ship lists do not equal turrets.

Looks like only half of the Top 8 had them. I was pretty far off.

Another interesting note, if SoS was still the 1st tie-breaker, then 2nd place would not have made the cut, and it was possible that 1st would not have either. There was one player with 6-0, then 10 with 5-1 records. One guy had a modified win, so he wouldn't have made it. But the players who were ranked #4 (won final) & #10 had SoS of 85, and #6 (lost final) had SoS of 80. I think everyone is glad we are in MoV instead of SoS.

We had 3 people from our Tampa, Fl meta go; all went 3-3.

The thing they said the most was there was no AC. Can you imagine the gamer funk with 100+ people after a few hours.

Guess it's not called Hotlanta for nothing.

Ya, it was disgustingly hot. Having heat conditioning as line cook helped me out for the day, lol.

3 IG's in top 8!

Wonder what that Chewie Corran build is?

Correction, that was 6 IG88s. Hehe.

Bob, all the Brobot player had to do to beat me was kill my Z and one B and run for the rest of the game.

It was more the fact that you split your group, soon as I split your Bs I knew I could out maneuver them enough to keep you from getting too many shots for the rest of the game.

Hey man I had them marked and different heights.

Yea, I didn't really know what I was doing at that point, made many bad moves, was completely out played.

You did have them at different heights and marked, but the ship cards were not marked with the same symbols, it was a long day, and I was tired... ^_^ .

They had air, but it wasn't designed for 80+ people in there at one time.

I may have had to reapply my deodorant about 5 times through out the day and lost about 10lbs of sweat but it was still a great event I thought. Especially enjoyed my game at table 31 right next to the portable AC unit!
