Corran, Jan, and Noob

By Ziusdra, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I haven't flown this yet, it's just been rolling around in my head as a crazy idea.

What Is This I Don't Even (100 points)

Corran Horn

  • R2-F2 (Action: +1 Agility)
  • Advanced Sensors
  • Expose (Action: +1 Attack, -1 Agility)
  • Experimental Interface

Jan Ors

  • Ion Cannon Turret
  • Either Han Solo or Recon Spec (I'm thinking Han Solo since the second focus will be wasted while Corran is taking all the initial fire)

Green Squadron Pilot

  • A-Wing Text Pilot
  • Chardaan Refit
  • Wingman
  • Draw their Fire

Plan of attack:

On rounds that Corran attacks:

Movement phase: Take a Focus or barrell roll out of as many firing arcs as possible, and then EI Expose. Taking my actions before my maneuver, I can perform a green maneuver to remove stress, but I can also perform a white manuever if I want. Green Squadron Pilot will remove the stress and help make sure he and Jan aren't awfully stressed by opponent stress tactics. Green Squadron Pilot moves and acts like a blocker/action-denyer--if he takes actions, they'll be focuses for his own attack.

Combat phase: Jan takes a stress to give Corran +1 attack. Corran rolls 5 or 6 attack dice per attack (throwing 10 or 12 dice at an enemy by the end of the round, with the first 5 or 6 dice getting a Focus modification). While defending, Green Squadron Noobie will be using DtF to protect Corran as much as possible. Green acts basically like additional shields and hull over Corran. Jan will strategically hit a target with Ion Cannon in order to keep him from moving into a position to attack Corran next round. And Green, if he has an attack, will shoot whatever.

On rounds that Corran cannot attack:

Movement phase: Take a Focus or barrell roll, and EI R2-F2 for additional defense. Green continues to action-block. Again, Green takes away the stress from Experimental Interface, if I didn't perform a green maneuver after doing Advanced Sensor actions.

Combat phase: Jan continues to Ionize targets I don't want pursuing Corran while Corran sets himself up for another 10-12 dice attack round. If Corran is unfortunate to be in firing arcs, he'll get 4/5 defense dice and hopefully have a Focus token to modify, and Green Squadron Pilot to take away the Crits.

I know, it's a crazy idea, I haven't flown it, and I've flown E-Wings maybe twice ever, so this might be an over idealistic idea of his abilities.

Jan can add a die to a single attack per round. She doesn't increase a pilot's attack value for the round.

In practice I think you'll have a hard time keeping the Green where he can be useful with Wingman and DTF. For 4 points of EPTs I'd probably take PTL and Calculation.

Wingman and DTF are 3 points of EPTs. And that's good to know about Jan, I had overlooked that. That fact alone kind of nerfs this build just enough that I might consider going with something else... I was already on the fringe with stacking my whole deck on one single E-Wing.

At most you'll get to throw at range 1 is 11 attack dice in a 6 dice attack and a 5 dice attack. Only one of those will have an attack modifier if you don't take FCS. Its a pretty nasty strike, but you leave Corran at range 1 with only 2 agility dice. I see him going down fairly quickly. Then you are just left with an A-wing and Jan.

What about Fire Control System instead of Advanced Sensors? This allows you to have a target lock for each of Corran's attacks after he uses Expose. So you would move, Target Lock, use Experimental Interface to Expose, then attack, spend the TL, use Fire Control Systems to gain a TL, attack again, spend the TL, and gain another TL (if your target is still alive).
