Ship stats for Corona-class armed frigate

By knasserII, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Hi. I don't know if this has been published anywhere officially. I suspect not due to this being a Clone War -era ship. But could anyone help with stats for Hondo's saucer from TCW?

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Acushnet

I've not done enough with ships to have a feel for them, yet. Really appreciate any versions of it people have - game on Sunday and am unprepared. :(

K.

Which variant are you looking for, the one with lemon or the one with lime?

I had no idea they came with different coloured highlights! Basically, Hondo's ship as seen in TCW. The link just says the ship was called Acushnet and was a Corona-class armed frigate.

Pretty sure that was a beer joke....

Offhand it seems the things would be similar to the nebulon...

Well armament for frigate size vessels usuallyy comes out as number of batteries in saga x number of gunners per battery equals number of weapons in D6 and FFG

That puts us at 8 medium turbolasers, 16 heavy Ion Cannons, 8 medium laser cannons, and 4 tractor beams.

I would put the hull trauma slightly higher then a Neb-Bs but the shields would be much weaker. Say 2 in two arcs and 1 in two or maybe even 2 in one arc and 1 in three.

Wow. That's pretty fearsome. But that's fine as it suits the role in the game. Do you have any thoughts about HT and speed / handling?

Also, why Ion Cannons? I always thought that they may be less common in older ships as they seemed rare in TCW. Only one I can recall was the Malevolence which was explicitly a secret weapon.

Thanks for your help.

Corona is a Mexican beer that, in the US, is traditionally served with lemon or lime in the neck of the bottle. One is the correct way, while the other is a vile abomination. So, did you want lemon or lime?

I feel that armament is a bit much. The Wookie article lists 2 Medium Turbolaser Batteries, 4 Heavy Ion Cannons, 4 Medium Laser Cannons, and 1 Tractor Beam. Your Armament is almost better than a Venator Star Destroyer.

Crew: 64

Passengers: 200

The ship also spins so I would give it a 1 rating all around but have a higher Hull Trauma.

Weapon loadouts in Saga, which is the only source we have for Corona-Armed Frigate Stats, is much lighter then in D^ or FFG which are usually identical in number of weapons even if the types and firing arcs vary.

For frigates the method to convert the weapon loadout is to multiply the number of batteries by the number of gunners per battery.

For example a Nebulon-B in saga has 2 medium turbo laser batteries with 6 gunners each and 2 point defense laser bateries with 6 gunners each.

2 turbolaser batteries multiplied by 6 gunners equals 12 turbolasers

2 laser cannon batteries multiplied by 6 gunners equals 12 laser cannons

2 tractor beams multiplied by one gunner each equals 2 tractor beams

12 turbolaser batteries, 12 laser cannons, and 2 tractor beams matches its loadout in both D6 and FFG.

Now run the process with a Corons

2 medium turbolaser batteries multiplied by 4 gunners each=8 Medium Turbolaser batteries

4 Heavy Ion Cannon Batteries multiplied by 4 gunners equal 16 Heavy Ion Cannons

4 Medium Laser cannon batteries multiplied by 2 gunners each equals 8 Medium Laser Cannons

1 tractor beam battery multiplied by 4 gunners equals 4 tractor beams

So it has 32 weapons and 4 tractor beams to the Nebulon-Bs 24 weapons and 2 tractor beams.

But the Corona is much larger then a Neb-B due to their hull shapes and has a much smaller hanger. I would count the Flarestars as fighters so it has 6 fighters and 12 tanks to a Nebulon's 24 fighters. The Nebulon-B is long but narrow but the Corona is longer and its width equals its length due to the saucer shape.

I would say 0 handling, due to the penalty on piloting being smaller in Saga -8 for a Neb to -6 for a Corona, and the speeds would be identical

The original stats for the Corona armed came out in saga and it had twice as many Ion cannons as it had turbolasers. You rarely see Ion cannons on screen anywhere in Star Wars but that does not mean they aren't there. Malevolence had a super ion cannon but it was never stated there weren't smaller ion cannons on other ships.
